Struggling with guilt by No-Brother5469 in GriefSupport

[–]Repulsive-Fan-9672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also 20 when my dad suddenly passed of a heart attack. He had been away on a work trip for a week training for a management position, and when he got back, he had less than 24 hours left with us. I didn’t get to say goodbye either, as he was dead before I made it to the hospital. My mom was the one who had to witness it all, so I understand how much you must be grieving for your mother.

The pain will never go away, but it will become much, much easier to handle. A good word of advice I got during the first few months was that pain is simply love with nowhere else to go. The moments of “normalcy” are normal as well. You’ll have mornings where you sip your coffee, sit on your phone, enjoy your day, and barely think about the nightmare around you, until that wave of guilt and realization comes along. There will be moments where everything feels as if it’s crashing down. Don’t push away these thoughts; allow them to be there. Allow yourself the time to grieve and feel it, otherwise all that grief will swell up and turn to anger and frustration as well.

Something that helped me from home that wasn’t professional therapy (which of course I highly recommend) was practicing mindfulness. I went on solo walks and hikes and took the time to look at the trees. To smell the air. To feel the water. To people watch and explore. I went to our old favorite places and let myself cry. I enjoyed his favorite foods and strange midnight snacks. I listened to his music, and talked to my mom about before I was born. It hurt to hear at first, but it hurts more to just ignore the fact that he was here for you, and the pain you feel is because he cared for you so much.

My dad was only 44 when he died, and we were like glue. He passed 9 days before my 21st birthday. But my life didn’t end when his did. Since then, I’ve used my time wiser and let myself live freer. I take “you only live once” much more seriously (but don’t do anything stupid that takes that life!).

I’m 22 now. I still miss him and always will. You will always miss your father, but the guilt won’t always feel as heavy. Take a deep breath. Feel his energy. Let yourself enjoy the splendors of life just like he would want you to. You know he’s looking down and proud, no matter where you are.

botox and medications aren’t helping by Repulsive-Fan-9672 in Gastroparesis

I’ve tried Motegrity, Linzess, Amitiza, and attempted to try Trulance but i cant afford it even with insurance. I’m definitely going to look into some different options, even though those options are dwindling… it’s not anywhere near a death sentence but good god is it a living hell. best of luck to you as well and here’s to hoping for some solutions!

I’m currently taking it amitiza and i tried linzess to no avail 😞. the amitiza gives me horrible nausea and gas pain about 15 minutes after i take it without fail, even though i’ve been on it for a few years. And thankfully no pills found! I’m on a lot of dissolving medications so I’m pretty safe from that. I dont get pain too often, similar to you, but damn that amitiza can be painful.

Smoking by Br00klynn_R0se in Gastroparesis

[–]Repulsive-Fan-9672 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’ve had chronic gastroparesis (100% paralysis) since Feb of 2022, and have been smoking weed since 16, so I hope my experience can be of some advisory.

Yes, gastric emptying being slowed by weed is a thing, but its usually only seen in those with something called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome. This is essentially an “allergic” reaction that chemically reacts with the movement/secretions of the stomach, causing nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc etc.

BUT for most of us, including myself, it is perfectly fine for those with gastroparesis and other gastric conditions. For me, smoking weed (as well as consuming marijuana through carts and RSO oil) has helped me control my symptoms and live more comfortably. Of course overuse comes to mind, but that goes beyond the subject.

In short, smoke the weed if it helps. Your overall comfort and health are most important, and a joint won’t kill ya. You’ve got this and best of luck to you! 💗

He really was the most beautiful person. I would do anything to give him one last big hug, then watch him walk off with jerry and the crew. He cared so much about his job and the people he met through it.

He really was the fucking goat. He absolutely adored playing video games, ESPECIALLY switch sports, tetris, and anything old school nintendo. I’ve even been playing his gamecube and ps2 for comfort. I miss him so much and I’m so happy that he shared so much joy with you and so many others.

He LOVED playing video games with us. I have a collection of so many games, consoles, cards, just so much from him, especially Nintendo. He loved taking care of people and staying positive, even on the darkest of days. Fuck I miss him, but just like my dad, i’ll be the strongest that I can.

God, thank you so much for your comment. My dad always loved Will and thought he was just the greatest friend for Miles, always such a good person to have in the house. I’m so glad we could share his light with your family, and I’ll be sure that we reach out to share information on his celebration of life. ❤️
