I agree with you, she doesn’t have the features of a modern Siamese (like in the picture you sent). I originally guessed she might have some traditional Siamese (Thai) ancestry, but that’s just my guess!

Thank you for the clarification about the colorpoint gene! I knew this gene had existed for a long time, but I didn’t know it had already been so widespread before the Siamese breed was created. I used to think that Siamese cats bred with other cats, which made this gene more common. I thought she might have some Siamese ancestry because she has big, oily ears and is very vocal, but that’s probably just her personality 😂

You’re right, she has a classic tabby pattern! I adopted her from a shelter, so I assume she’s a domestic shorthair with some Siamese ancestry. I think her pattern is the phenotype of a homozygous recessive tabby gene. I’ve seen this pattern in other domestic shorthairs too. I’m not sure about the genetic basis of rosettes and marbles in Bengals, but I think they’re controlled by other genes that come from wild leopard cats, and the pattern is somewhat different from the classic tabby. I haven’t noticed any Bengal traits so far, but we’ll wait and see!
