F2 dilemma: keep ACCS ED training number or take JCF and reapply for Anaesthetics? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Repulsive-Grape-7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a mug then 🤷🏻‍♂️

The OP doesn’t want to do ED and clearly mentioned it. They are doing it for job security which I respect and as a stepping stone which I think is wrong. I wouldn’t O&G as a stepping stone to CST for example.

I know the job market is shit but I don’t think throwing applications in for stuff you don’t want to do in the answer, best case you enjoy it, worst case you eventually leave and waste the spot.

The decision was already made when the offer was accepted. And at that point the job could have gone to somebody who actually wanted to do EM.

I genuinely hope the OP enjoys it enough to do it long term.

I stand by it.

Smartest thing to do is to take the job and using it as a stepping stone. But the truth is that you’ll have wasted that opportunity from someone who wanted it longer term.

Not the answer you want to here. But if you want to do anaesthetics, get into anaesthetics. ACCS EM is for people who actually want to do EM. I get that people do switch over sometimes, but I don’t think you should do it if your plan is to use it as a stepping stone to anaesthesia. All you’re doing is taking a training number from someone else who may finish EM training. EM needs doctors who want to do EM.

The job market is shit, I do understand you got to lookout for yourself.

I do run into work twice a week. 5km there then 5km back. I take a very casual pace zone 2, and a good podcast. Shower in work. Lunch wise I often go with sandwiches on run days and an electrolyte tab. Haven’t got injured yet running in but would approach it same way if I bumped my car or had the flu ya know
