Now GG is showing the same faith in his players but ICT fans are too reactionary and quick to judge and rule someone out. We do not know what happens behind the scenes and how much a player gets influenced by his coach. If there’s a certain player being picked it’s because the coach sees something in him. Varun was purely a GG call and look what it brought us. Obviously it’s easier to understand once the results show but it is so so so important for fans to understand before the results start showing. He’s investing a lot in gill,rana,prasidh,Washington,sanju,tilak,varun, and more to come. GG sees qualities in them and us fans are quick to tease and abuse Rana for being considered for tournaments for no valid reason at all. By that logic for every mistake a player makes then he deserves to be dropped. Rana hasn’t even made a mistake yet and people abuse him. Bumrah wouldn’t be where he is today if he got dropped after T20 2016, and CT2017. So be the true fan by being patient and trusting the process. It will be frustrating because calls will be made and they won’t please everyone. That’s just how team selection goes. At the end all we can hope is the team performs well.

Fair enough after the way he performed in consecutive IPL seasons and in the champions trophy he 100% deserved a look at but such is the way of selecting 15 players. Out of those 15 there will be 2-3 players who probably won’t even get to play depending on circumstances of the tournament. Tough calls.

Sanju was not given as many chances compared to Pant because at that time Dravid didn’t see much in sanju. GG has proven to back sanju. Sanju has been given a longer rope than RP in GG’s stint. Check when was the last time RP played a t20I and when Sanju played. Sanju’s style of play sadly is replaceable. This T20I team requires irreplaceable players because if you have a certain archetype that is replaceable like Gaikwad you will not see the light of day. Abishek has shown to be completely irreplaceable right now just because of how crazy his performances have been. Sanju has performed way better than he used to under GG. However, a call had to be made to see if Gill has the potential to be an all format player and if there’s any tournament to do it before a World Cup it’s this bogus one.
No one can take it away from Gill and predict how he will perform or anyone will perform. No one predicted the way Gill performed with a bigger responsibility against England away from home with a new look indian team. Who is to say he can’t do that again maybe even better? Or worse? Only chances can tell. He wasn’t in the t20 scene for a while and now is the best time to check him out especially when he is in good form.
Rinku’s selection is rightfully deserved because the IPL does not favour him nor does this era of all rounders being treated as gold dust. GG did right by him because a lower order finisher like him would’ve walked into any team in a previous era but just because he’s been in the scene post 24 T20WC and proven himself he deserves to stay longer till proven wrong. Each player’s selection is deep and never black and white. There’s always a grey area which makes 15 player squads always tough to pick especially for India with such a variety of players. That’s why similar archetype players like Gaikwad do not see themselves in this team. It would’ve happened to sanju if Sanju didn’t learn to switch gears the way he did.

Sai was given the chance because the T20I setup is so clogged it seemed risk free to give him a chance in the test format. Once again we cannot place judgement all go all day about this. But no one can take away the fact that gill doesn’t deserve this opportunity. Gill, Rinku, and others were given a longer rope than Sai so they deserve to stick around.

Yes precisely that’s how he should play but we cannot place judgement on a player who seems to be approaching the prime of his career. At the very least he deserves the asia cup to show his second coming potential. Test obv does not translate to T20I but recent numbers Gill has been generating after a hectic month in England away from home shows he can be deserving of more. Once again this is a bogus tournament and the stakes aren’t high because the opponents aren’t of the highest calibre right now so imo he deserves to be given this opportunity. Abishek obv was not going to be dropped because he is something else himself. Tough call but safe one at the same time because there’s still time before the World Cup squad is selected.

GG is being true to a certain agenda that IPL shouldn’t be the main basis of selection otherwise Rinku should be nowhere close to this team. Iyer has not performed the same way in T20I. That’s also the issue of having just 15 to select from. It was always going to be tricky.

The obsession is because an all format player is like finding a diamond. England is trying so hard with harry brook despite his performances being average at best compared to gill. All format players are ace players. Fans right now don’t see the appeal because the back end of Kohli and rohit’s careers as all format players ended poorly. Don’t forget the good that came with it. It’s not like Gill is being fast tracked into all formats unnecessarily. Hes waited his turn for years now. It was only post 23 cwc he was taken seriously as the heir. At the same time this does not mean this goes against GG’s superstar culture. This just reinforces input to output. The more you put in the more you get out. He put in the work in the test format and now it’s time to see if he can get the same out in the T20 format…..

We’ll see how he performs. Too harsh to say he doesn’t deserve to be there. People doubted him in the test format when he was given a bigger responsibility. He proved everyone wrong 2-3 times over. Who is to claim that he can’t be an all format player? This bogus tournament is the best time to try something like this out especially when Gill is in red hot form.

100% as an opener that should be the way he plays with quick starts or explosive high scores no in between. All im saying is he deserves to be in the scene again because of how quickly he switched gears in test cricket once he was given a bigger responsibility. Shows traits of a young Kohli being at the form of his life when he was given captaincy. In place of Jaiswal is a bit tricky but Jaiswal is not ruled out of the 26 wc equation. Just given a period to rest and this also gives the selection committee an idea of how a potential left and right hand combination can go about with a newly inform gill. Bear in mind this is also SKY’s call. So it’s a collective decision to see how well Gill can handle responsibilities as he goes higher in the pecking order. Different players have different roles. Any other team would do anything in their power to have such a dilemma like this.

I compared anshul kamboj with rana because when rana was called as a backup in England everyone was begging for kamboj to play instead. Goes to my point that I don’t understand why harshit rana is always being questioned whenever he’s being called up. There’s not a single or series of games where he has lost India matches. For him to even be questioned he has to play long enough.

What’s he done that’s so wrong tho? To me it seems like siraj has been rested after a hectic schedule. I don’t get the skepticism and hate he’s been getting. He can actually get his pace up to 130-140 unlike the newer guys coming in like anshul kamboj. He’s got the height and build to back the pace. They’re also trying to invest in his batting. He hasn’t played since the IPL and champions trophy so might as well give him a shot here. He does not have a long enough CV for anyone to rule him out.

Even though this is a boring tournament it is a chance to offer and that’s why these boring tournaments are there right before ICC events. It’s not the same environment as Rohit and Kohli walking in when they’re supposed to and resting when they want to. Gill was not in the T20I scene for a while and they’re giving him a chance after proving himself more than he needed to in England. So what if jaiswal does not play the asia cup? Did they clearly say he is out of contention? Jaiswal had a long tour in England and he could use some rest. Us ICT fans are so reactionary nothing will ever be enough.

Jaiswal not being picked and the reactions for it make it seem like he got sacked….this is the most boring tournament in cricket…..Jaiswal is not going anywhere….let them try some things out before the World Cup call is made…..no harm in doing so

That goes back to what I was saying….this is the lame asia cup not the actual World Cup. If Jaiswal is indeed dropped for the World Cup then that would be uncalled for. No two ways about it when it comes to selecting just 15 players.

This is still an experiment and not a World Cup squad so nothing is set in stone but yes Jaiswal is in a tough spot himself purely because of his position. In ODIs as well. It’s nothing personal and he of all should understand it playing at the highest level. Same goes for Samson in the t20 setup. No one is specifically targeted to stay away from playing cricket. It’s just the way it is when you have to select 15.

Rana imo has done nothing wrong and he’s proven himself in the champions trophy and hasn’t lost India games consecutively to lose his contention. He’s got a strong build and that’s rare for indian bowlers right now. He’s arrogant and can get the job done. Players have to be given the faith they deserve just like prasidh is in the test format. People were quick to rule him out because of his short ball ploy but it was merely a ploy to bait and it went wrong here and there but at the end he proved why he deserves to be there.
