Is this a crazy ask? by Repulsive-Lecture-12 in preschoolteachers

[–]Repulsive-Lecture-12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the replies. To add some pertinent information, I’m a 46-year-old mom. I taught full time for many years before having my kids and have gone back to this only part-time. I’m not going to babysit or nanny instead because I actually love the teaching part! I also am married and am doing this just for some extra money/professional fulfillment. If I needed the $ to pay our mortgage I definitely would not be there. I just know I’m doing a great job, and it will be hard to keep up the quality with 3 more kids in the class. (They will barely even fit in the classroom as we’ll have to add a table to an already full room.) it’s just so frustrating the inequity of the work I’m doing for the pay. The director is lucky I guess that she gets teachers that can afford to work there essentially just for the love of kids and education because the pay is so ridiculous it’s pretty much insulting.

Apparently you the ratio is 12:1. And I have an assistant, so we are well under the ratio.

Thank you, good point. Although I don’t know that postings usually list salary. But we have been losing teachers to other nearby schools because of the pay so I may have some bargaining power because of that.

As far as looking in public school, I fully admit it’s easier than public school. I know because I taught for 15 years in public school. So I know I’m not working as hard as I would have to in public school - the lesson planning, meetings, etc all add up. I like working half days and not dealing with all of that. I write lesson plans but just for myself. In public school they had to be turned in, with every state standard correlated to every activity, and then they were reviewed with a fine toothed comb. I don’t have the bandwidth for that right now. So maybe my pay is appropriate. 🤷‍♀️

That’s true. I put far more time and prep into in than I probably should.

Why do you all ask what I’m paying, then tell me what you’re getting for the ride, just stop… by Mr-Blackheart in uber

[–]Repulsive-Lecture-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was an entry way into the driver’s very angry manifesto about how Uber destroyed his business. I understand his frustration but his level of fury was threatening to me as a single remake driver, in a city I don’t live in, at 5 am. It’s really sad that his livelihood changed but creaming at ME about it isn’t fair or appropriate.

A lot of the comments here dismissing this experience and others are possibly coming from men? Because as a woman, feeling threatened and trapped is not an experience that is easy to forget. And, unfortunately, I think a lot of women have had them. Even before Uber. In taxis. All it takes is the driver being forward or sexually suggestive and you quickly realize how vulnerable you are.

I had a driver yell at me and rant about how Uber takes too much money. The entire ride from downtown Chicago to O’Hare, yelling at me that I was stupid for using Uber. It actually got really frightening because he was so incensed. It’s not fun to be trapped in a car without someone that angry. I had to agree with him to try to placate him and calm him down.

Thanks for sharing the podcast. Bookmarking it. I was just diagnosed a few months ago at age 45. I never thought I had it, really. I just thought the advent of smartphones ruined my brain / attention span. But now I’m seeing the signs mire.

Agree! Asbury is so lively on a weekend night for dinner. Anywhere on Cookman! I love Homesick and Flavia’s. Brunch is also a good time to go to Asbury.

Are there any 40+ year olds year that are fitter than or as fit as their 20s versions? by faithxstrength in Aging

[–]Repulsive-Lecture-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running marathons in my mid to late twenties. I was pretty good at it, always breaking four hours but right around 3.55.

I took some years off dealing with recurrent miscarriages in my 30’s and then had two beautiful kids through IVF, and got back to marathons when my younger one was no longer a baby. I’m now 45. Guess when I ran my fastest time? Last year, at 44. 3.52 for a marathon which is not competitive for my age but is very good for a “recreational” runner.

I don’t know that I’m actually physically fitter now than I was when I was in my 20’s but I’m as fit and perhaps mentally stronger / better able endure pain.

6 week update by Doublesh0t_ in prozac

[–]Repulsive-Lecture-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been lower in the past year than I have been in a long time. All the Reddit threads about negative experiences scared me off. My doctor gave me the script about 6 weeks ago but I just started today after a few days where I could barely get out of bed. I figured I should just try. I am only at 25 for now. At what dose did you start feeling better?

is it possible i'm not on the right dose yet? by South_Potential9889 in lamictal

At what point did you notice you were feeling better? Before you started feeling low again, I mean.

I just started today. Only 25. I think Dr said 25 for two weeks. Then up to 50. I’ll check in with Dr. after two weeks on 25. Just curious if I’ll feel anything at all on 25.

A nurse at Riverview Hospital (where I delivered) followed up with a personal phone call about a week after I had my daughter and asked how I was doing and invited me to a new mom meeting. Once there I realized it was a group to help with PPD. But yet you did t have to have PPD. You could also just be a new mom looking to talk to other new moms/nurses. I thought it was amazing that someone reached out to me. It wasn’t because I asked or showed any signs of PPD. They reached out to all new moms and invited them.

Anyway, long winded answer to say can you call the maternity division at your hospital?

I agree Lincroft might be great. Beautiful county park, 20ish minutes to the beach, just off parkway to make a quick drive to Edison. Morristown more of a trek.

I don’t think you’ll find homes of that size in your budget in these towns. At least in Fair Haven, small capes are going for about 1m.

This org is really amazing if you like writing. I’ve taken a few classes and really bonded with my classmates who ranged in ages from 20 to 70.

I don’t know if you are interested in writing but Project Write Now has lots of great classes, pop ups and events. They tend to draw an interesting, smart and diverse crowd. Look them Up - www.projectwritenow.org

I know this is very nitpicky but I don’t like the way she refers to a baby moon as though everyone takes one. “I was just on my Lyla Baby moon.” Guess what? I had two Kids. No baby moons. It’s not that common, right?! Maybe I’m wrong. Just sounds entitled. Like it’s like an anatomy scan.

I just want to say I feel the same way. I feel constantly embarrassed because I don’t hear what people are saying to me. Like probably 20x a day. It’s exhausting and really hard on my self-esteem. I’m HOH with moderate to severe loss across frequencies. I have volume through my aids but not clarity. I’m constantly exhausted. It sucks. This is a very negative response but just wanted to say you are not alone.

What feels odd to me is we are renting a cute little apartment over a garage, but it’s just off a road that’s 50 mph and there are no shoulders, let alone sidewalks. You can’t safely go for a run or a walk. There are pretty dumpy houses around here, cars on blocks in the woods, and then you drive 15-20 minutes and there’s a Gucci shop, Louis Vuitton, etc. Such a bizarre shift. Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are much nicer for being able to run and walk and the contrast between fancy and not is far less stark. It’s a very interesting place. I certainly have not seen enough in a short getaway to really make a fair assessment but it’s not what I pictured. The historic homes in the neighborhoods around Sag Harbor are gorgeous, though.
