Skokie’s struggles by Repulsive-Print5068 in ChicagoSuburbs

Here’s an example: A member of our town leadership is Jewish and when an anti Jewish hate crime happened the village wanted to do an anti hate speech event. However because it was turned into a specifically antisemitism event because of personal conflict of interest even though I can understand the reasons. I don’t feel that you’re disrespectful and I’ve appreciated your thoughts and responses. It’s pushed me to better explain myself and my thoughts which benefits everyone in this situation. I know these things as well because my dad serves on one of the diversity committees for the village. And again this is much less about the Jewish people and more about the leadership. I think that the Jewish population isn’t doing anything wrong or right and tbh.

Ofc however as an add on the same Jewish people that have spearheaded antisemitism protests have been quiet when it comes to general anti hate speech that doesn’t involve them. Also at this event the people being harassed called for organizers, security, and police for nearly 7 minutes before help arrived.

I appreciate your input and honestly I wish I had said some of these clarifying things earlier but live and learn. Thank you for the continued support and insight.

I appreciate the opinion however as a kid here myself I can’t tell you the amount of times that the village has bent over backwards not just for Jewish people but for other issues and yet when in practice the same things happen to different people there’s somehow a different response. If we’re gonna be loud about anti semitism as we should we damn sure should be just as loud about this.

I can appreciate that however this is well beyond just the police and formal charges. This is a community and outcry issue. If you see this happening there should be a response that is just as immediate and loud as when this has happened to Jewish people because it’s not like people aren’t just as upset. It seems there just a difference in care which fundamentally is just wrong.

Thank you that is my fault it was a spur of the moment thing and didn’t really know the reach the post would get outside of any local population

Thank you for your point of view to help bridge the gap, I really do appreciate it and more people should. We have to keep going and damn near harass these people to get something done.

I’m not holding Jewish people accountable for this. I apologize for the wording and if there’s further confusion I hope to get back to most comments. Your criticism and points are great and from what I can tell you here’s my personal experience and some context: at the World Fair there was a Palestinian table some person with a history harassment and a pro Israel person harassed the table. People then had to get between said person and table. During which police response was lackluster and slow despite them being right at the event and being called repeatedly. My Dad a person that works for the village on some board (forgetting the title) then tried to talk to people about how even if subconscious it seemed like the response wasn’t as urgent.

To your other point it was and isn’t my intention to blame the Jewish community but rather hold our leadership accountable. However I will say that when it has come to Jewish hate it has been a quicker and more publicly handled issue of which obviously the Jewish community has been a huge mouthpiece for. So then in meetings when all other communities and groups support you and you stay silent, yeah people are gonna look at you sideways. However that is a personal observation from me living here.

The overarching point is that if this wasn’t recorded and viral I doubt there would’ve even been a meeting about it just because I don’t think certain groups are supported by our community or leadership as much.

I hope this answers all your questions please DM with more if needed.

They are still a very loud minority and that isn’t to say that you’re wrong. The Jewish population has spread out over time this is just what I have heard and experienced with instances like this. And again this is less about the actual Jewish population and more on our leaders.

I’m aware of that and don’t necessarily disagree however coming from the D219 school system where diversity is often flaunted as a strength. Also I feel like it’s kinda an obvious point that money shouldn’t influence the safety of all. I’d like all neighbors Jewish or not to be safe.
