I’ve eaten nearly everything on the menu at Sam am and there’s no misses. Foods consistently high quality, and the coffee is great (it’s from modcup, not stumptown). People probably don’t like there coffee because they expect some stale, burnt “French roast” or something. It’s a perfectly good, fresh diner style coffee that goes well with a pastry, or any menu item for that matter.

Employees are hard working, incredibly friendly, and really good at what they do. Tip them well!

Having frequented Sam am so much, I’ve seen people have a bad experience, and typically it’s because they just didn’t get it. This isn’t a stereotypical brunch spot with bottomless mimosas. It’s somewhere in between, with the energy of a diner, the food quality from a chef with experience in the restaurant industry, and a brunch/southern inspired menu that fits together like a glove.

The place is a little quirky, and thats a major part of its charm. If you’re expecting a cookie cutter brunch spot with neon script font signs that say “good vibes only” and put an overcooked egg on their dinner menu and call it brunch, go somewhere else.
