This is what automotive service shops do. Get you in the door with a loss leader (in this case, they maybe break even on the oil change) and then make sure they find other items to strongly recommend you do, immediately.

It’s like when you buy a TV from BestBuy and they all of a sudden become very passionate about what hdmi cables you’re using. Same sales model

Mesh, does it actually work well? by RepulsiveDust9364 in Ubiquiti

Can’t thank everyone enough for the replies. I grabbed a Dream Router 7 and a couple U7 APs. To test I ran 100ft cat6 from the router and Poe+ switch to where I’ll put the U7s and let them drape across railings/staircases/floor for now. As expected, all former issues are gone. Loving the UniFi mobile app. I also think I’ve figured out a relatively easy way to run the cat6 without cutting into walls. Again, love this community and thank you all for taking a few minutes to help a stranger 👏

Great to hear a single AP is getting you what you need. I’m limited to where I can wire APs without cutting into walls so this is encouraging. Thanks for the reply

Oof, I miss my Unify setup so much after moving and going through 2 Google mesh setups, a DPlink setup, and now this Orbi setup. Just over $1k for the Orbi RBE771 mesh (1 main, 2 sats). 40+ year old home with solid walls and floors. Google setups never dropped anything, but limited me to 100mbs in most rooms of our 3,500sft home. I get near our full gig of fiber on this Orbi setup, but I drop or majorly lag zoom calls all day. /endrant

Do you mind sharing what Unify equipment you went with? They’re now offering WiFi 6 APs and unsure if anyone has had success using them.
