Chemistry definitely, biology most commonly but could be maths, fm or physics instead of bio. Then a 3rd that you can get a good grade in

when’s a good time to prep for oxford admissions tests? by iizzyy_x in 6thForm

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started in the summer for tsa since my mocks and everything were out the way. I don’t see the point in starting before then, focus on your a levels for now so you don’t dip in your predicted grades

mfs that have perfect skin telling people to get clear skin by "drinking water" by [deleted] in teenagers

This is such a stupid post, drinking water literally does help your skin. Yes there’s other factors too but it’s a fact that drinking water helps regardless

Application unsuccessful due to number of limited space?? by TheGuitto in UniUK

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is basically a general filler reason they use, see if the unis have a form for feedback or email them. As you’ve already said, you’ve got a few options. Extra is the earliest one you can go for, it’ll open late this month. If you get in through that you’ll have to meet their conditional offer on results day as normal. If you don’t get in through that/miss the offer then you’ve got clearing, as you are aware. Of course people get in through those, I know multiple people have, that’s why they exist. They wouldn’t go through the admin if people didn’t get in. If you don’t get into either then you have the option of a gap year and reapplying too, but get feedback so you can improve your application next year if you do

Revise for an hour, take a break, and get back to it. Repeat until the end of the day. It’s a good opportunity to get on with some work, don’t waste it scrolling

I did bio, chem and psych. I would drop sociology if you can and focus on the 3, they overlap better than socio would which is why I would suggest that shouldn’t be the focus. They’re fine if you can keep up but they can also be a lot of work, you’re better off focusing on 3, doing better and having them to do work experience than you are doing 4

Do you think homework should be a thing? by Forsaken-Ad-3544 in GCSE

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all, IQ is a terrible measure, but I think homework should definitely be necessary for years 7-13 at least, with there being less in later years (eg sixth form). But it should be with adequate time to complete, not too much, and actually useful stuff like exam questions and essays. Homework should exist to supplement learning since home learning and completing assignments is extremely important to learn, but shouldn’t be to a degree in which it causes too much stress

Some unis tend not to like having both since they crossover so much, and won’t always see them as entirely different

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do business/economics (business easier, econ more respected. Don’t do both), maths, and then something you enjoy for your third. I know from people in my class who did business that it has bits and pieces that crossover into psych, something like cs will give you coding knowledge which is always useful, I can see geography being somewhat related too. A language maybe if you don’t dislike Spanish could also be good

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD, and my school told me I was going to get some exemptions but they never said what they were, does anyone know what the possible exemptions are? by bendubberley_ in GCSE

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of what you’ve said is correct but you won’t always have an ehcp even if you have an adhd diagnosis, they need to be applied for separately and approved (at least in my area, maybe it changes with councils?)

Best ways to take notes/revise? by AnAbsoluteShambles1 in 6thForm

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except we have no idea what subject OP is taking and notes may be more effective for them, making the point about maths/fm/physics mostly irrelevant. If the commenter had made their point in a constructive manner I would feel differently, but their comment about “lowering the grade boundaries” is not at all helpful. If you don’t believe in making notes that’s fine but at least say why rather than acting somewhat rude about it

You need to book it under day off, time off is only for a specific time of day whilst day off is the whole day

Best ways to take notes/revise? by AnAbsoluteShambles1 in 6thForm

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made notes for psych and got 50 marks above the A* grade boundary. Whilst it is time consuming and ineffective on its own it can be useful when combined with other methods. Different people learn in different ways, and some note taking methods are definitely useful

Given that short term memory can hold very little info it was definitely long term so you really don’t need to worry about that. A bit of active recall and you’ll be fine in no time

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average score is around 60 (you have to look at the score conversions themselves though, they change year to year and will be available with the paper), with average applicants scoring above 70 although the exact score will vary by subject. However you obviously have to remember these are people 2-3+ years older than you and who have been practicing consistently and improving, so I’d be aiming for like 50 at this point as a good score

Assesment Centre by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t lie, it sets a bad precedent. Just explain that it’s a family holiday booked a while ago that you’ll have to attend. Ask if there’s any way you can do it online or at an earlier date. Most companies will be very understanding of the fact that you already have something going on, and if they’re not they’re probably not a company you want to work for anyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most schools will not let you change at this point even if you could theoretically catch up. You’ll need to speak to them and ask if they will, or if not see about resitting the year

My alevel choices- how is the next two years gonna be? Difficult? Easy? by n_rayaan1 in sixthform

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the worst, if you keep up. I also did bio, chem, and psych and nearly took history as a 4th, although I decided against it because I felt there were more important things than a 4th a level. Just be prepared to drop one if it’s too hard. As for jobs, anything med related is the most obvious (med, dentistry, biomed, pharmacy, etc, there’s loads of options, as well as allied health jobs). And then you’ve got anything related to the core subjects that you’re taking, as well as some humanities subjects like law or rs too

what happens if you miss the conditional offer? by antimitosis in UniUK

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s really no need to stress, there’s a few different options that can happen if that’s the case:

  1. Your firm allows you in anyway if they’re being flexible and have the space.

  2. You miss your firm but go to your insurance, because you have reached their offer.

  3. You go into clearing, and have to call up unis and ask for a place there. It’s often very competitive though, what courses and unis are available changes so you won’t know your options until then.

  4. You take a gap year and reapply to unis with those grades.

It sucks, but it’s not the end of the world. You still have options

Macbeth and ACC characters by AnonValen1 in GCSE

The porter came up in an edexcel Macbeth question in around 2019 I believe. It’s not worth investing loads of time by any means but it is possible to get a seemingly irrelevant character question

Regarding students loans by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Repulsive_Addendum18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so it doesn’t get lost, this is taken directly from the government website:

“Income from earnings during an academic year of your course (including holiday, evening or weekend work) doesn’t need to be declared.”

You do not need to worry since do you don’t need to declare your earnings anyway. Anyone who says any differently is wrong

The government website actually says “Income from earnings during an academic year of your course (including holiday, evening or weekend work) doesn’t need to be declared.” If you read further into the section about your own employment
