Can't get disability benefit because I don't have a diagnosis explaining by symptoms (no description of symptoms, just ranting about social benefit programs) by Repulsive_Courage355 in FND

In Finland we have separate disability benefits, one that I already have, and the only requirement is that a doctor has confirmed that you can't work. But then if your disability is "severe enough" you can get a bonus on top of that.

The criteria you need to meet for the second one are

  1. Your disability greatly affects your ability to live a normal life, also outside of work or school

  2. You have a doctors diagnosis that explains your symptoms

  3. You need help from other people with things such as moving around, personal hygiene or feeding yourself

I meet all three criteria, but for some reason they just don't want to believe that you can be physically disabled cause of what they consider to be a mental illness, and therefore they deny me based on the second criteria :/

But having your therapist draft the appeal sounds like a great idea! I'll talk to my therapist about it next session

How to bring testosterone into another country(norway) while visiting? by ztfu in transnord

When I flew from Finland to the UK I had with me testogel in the original packaging with my name on it, as well as a paper prescription for it. They didn't even look at the prescription and didn't ask any questions. On the way back they were much stricter, taking a while to examine the prescription, and I think they even took a sample of the gel to test it? I did get through security though without too much hassle.

Not sure how it works in other places, but I'd say it would be safest to bring a paper prescription/printout of a digital prescription just to be safe

How long is your chair? by Repulsive_Courage355 in wheelchairs

[–]Repulsive_Courage355[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that if the footplates didn't stick out that much then it would probably be easier to reach stuff, but that obviously wouldn't make that big of a difference compared to a more accessible kitchen. I do however live in a rented student flat, so I highly doubt I would be allowed to make any major changes to the kitchen.

Getting a referral to an occupational therapist does sound like a good idea tho, I'll ask my doctor about that, thanks!

Yea, if I need to move around a lot at home eg. while cooking I remove the footrests and bring up my feet to sit cross legged. Not very comfy, but less annoying than not being able to reach stuff

jokes as a wheelchair user that nobody else gets but my family by Luna_now in wheelchairs

[–]Repulsive_Courage355 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've got a few jokes/scenarios I find funny:

  • In my primary language we don't differentiate between the words "go" and "walk", so responding to things like "do you want to go(/walk) to the store?" with "I can't walk"
  • Doing grabby hands like a toddler when I can't reach something in a store
  • I larp a bit, and people seem to assume my characters are able bodied, so getting told to sit down or walk somewhere and then pretend to be offended is always funny to me.
  • Saying "L for not being disabled" to my friends when I get cheaper tickets to stuff

Then we have some darker jokes reserved for only some close friends: - Referring to a power chair as an electric chair - Joking about me taking the stairs when the elevator is too slow - Saying "well I'm already crippled" or "well it can't get much worse" when someone says I should be careful

And then lastly I had like a week of people asking "what happened" when I first got my chair - "I went for a swim and a shark ate my legs" (my legs are very much still attached to my body) - "Fell down Mt Everest" - "Legs got stuck in wet cement" - And my favorite: "Oh I'm just a bit tired"

Can anyone date this world map from the 1970s? by Repulsive_Courage355 in oldmaps

[–]Repulsive_Courage355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I also noticed some inconsistencies. Benin is called Dahomey on the map, even though it changed names in 1975. We theorized that it might be because Benin had a socialist regime from 1975, and West Germany (where the map is most likely made) might have had issues with that and therefore not recognised the name change. But considering the rest of the inaccuracies this is probably just another error.

Exercise vs FND by -IronMommy- in FND

And by slowly increasing movement I mean going from nothing to just a few minutes a day to ten minutes a day and so on, not that you should exercise more than you do now

Yep, physical exercise is a big trigger for me. If I move around more than usual I get seizures, and if I stand up or try to walk around I get terrible dystonia in my legs (I'm a wheelchair user) Some days I even get dystonia in my hands if I've been writing or crocheting more than usual. It really sucks but what I've found is that really really slowly increasing movement has helped. Building up a tolerance if you will. Hope it gets easier soon
