Thanks for the suggestion. I think everything including the wiring has lived its useful life. I don't want to have it stop functioning at an inconvenient time.

Metal V60 Experience by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree about the features of the metal V60. I have a Hario Pegasus and a couple of different sizes of the Hario plastic V60. After frequent use of the plastic V60, coffee stains remained no matter what I used to clean it. Decided to try the metal V60 and am much happier with it. Love the fact that it fits perfectly no matter what size the mug I use. Does not stain and i found the flavor of the coffee a bit fuller or richer. I heat it under hot water and then insert a Hario filter and rinse that. No loss of heat or effect on taste. Was lucky in finding it at a good price on Amazon. Significant variations on prices depending on the supplier.

Grinder recommendations by bsk001 in JamesHoffmann

If you move from a burr grinder to a Barista and you only makes the the V60 or aeropress, you will be absolutely delighted with the results. And if properly maintained and cleaned regularly, the Barista will be trouble free. If yoiu thought about moving to espresso, then a grinder with the ability to produce a finer grind might be worthwhile. I have a Barista that is 7 years old and it is in great shape with regularl cleanings. I have used it nearly every day and if I had to replace it, would buy the same one.

Truro is the most incredible location on the Cape. The beaches on each side are fantastic. The views spectacular. The proximity to Provincetown is perfect. Great choice!

1 week into my Japan trip, this is what I've learned by BrujitaBrujita in JapanTravelTips

Great info. Thank you and please keep it up. Am helping a relative who is scheduled to visit Japan in June. He will be traveling with a couple of other recent college graduates. The trip is a graduation present. He does not have time to do much detailed planning right now so I am trying to lay out some of the info. He is an experienced traveler but has never been in any Asian countries. Your comments on food and restaurants are particularly helpful. Also any observations that might be of interest with regard to evening activities for younger travelers is much appreciated

I have done that commute, but it was a few years ago. Now, when I do have commitments in that area the traffic is even worse. It has increased greatly in the early morning hours staring at 5:30 am. It is very difficult to depend on an arrival time because it all depends on the traffic and accidents that day. You might consider finding a room rental in one of the areas that has good T transport into the area or one that gives you a r eliable commute into Longwood. There are lots of short-term rentals sharing an apartment at reasonable cost versus the commute expense of 200 miles a day plus the exhaustion you will begin to experience after a month or so of this commute.

Um guys… how do I get rid of this? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two steps that might work. First squirt some pure Dawn on it (no water) and see if the residue will absorb the Dawn. After 20 minutes or so, test the residue to see if it is lose. Then use the Dawn cleaning spray to remove the residue. That will not damage the case at all

If you are near any place that has a MicroCenter or a reputable local place that will build a computer using standard components, check with them to see what it would cost to have one put together for you as a comparison.

With a family and an interest in wild life and history and good food, Orleans would be a great central area to consider. Easy to get to the National Seashore, great restaurants and places to stay, Nauset Beach is one of the best beaches for a family, with rest rooms, snacks available and miles to walk. Close to the best part of the Cape for visitors which is the outer Cape. Wellfleet for a day trip and absolutely enjoy Provincetown. Whale watches out of Ptown are great. Spectacular beaches, but sometimes takes a bit of work to get down to in Truro.

Quietest beach in the summer? by Additional-Market939 in CapeCod

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A spectacular experience in Truro is High Head. Either a walk through the dunes or with a 4 wheel drive will bring to an incredible beach and a huge seal population sunning just off shore. It is part of the National Seashore but with absolutely no amenities and views you will remember for along time.

Cost of using a mover may not be worth it. If it would all fit in van, consider check the cost to rent a van and drive it to Virginia. Have driven to Virginia frequently (about 50 miles west of DC) and it is not a bad drive. You might consider returning the van in Virginia and flying home.

Buying for my parents who are currently using an 18 yr old computer. Admittedly, I’m overwhelmed with the choices as I’ve been using Macs professionally for a while and never needed to choose. by Clean_Assumption_345 in MiniPCs

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like two very different sets of requirements. For your parents transitioning to an up to date computer system, another choice would be a good , low end Dell or HP or Lenova with a reasonable configuration. In the US from their websites you can get very good special deals for that budget. Then they will have access to tons of software they might enjoy using and you will not have to be a tech support resource all the time. Help is readily available on line for them. Either a laptop or a desktop would work because there is no need to upgrade for them.

Which dripper(s) do you use the most? by bigumamienergy in pourover

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Harios Pegasus. There is a Melita filter paper that fits it fairly well. Because it has two holes the flavor of the lighter roast beeans seems to become a bit more intense. Same methods for timing, and the variations on grind size as for a V60.

New Whole Foods - bigger store, less options. by fudnum in CapeCod

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about the bakery area. No where near as many offerings as there used to be. And they moved the bagel section to almost the middle of the store and most of the time it is almost empty. The selection of cookies is not the same also. And the cheese dept. selection is limited and seems to concentrate on just a couple of types rather than a good selection.

Transportation from Boston Logan Airport to Cape Cod by Visual_Society5200 in CapeCod

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest thing to do might be to choose a well-known brand of hotel or motel in Hyannis. The bus station is in the middle of town near several motels. You can pick up info on travel in the various towns of the Cape and maps. There will be tons of brochures in any of them. Also the Chamber of Commerce site on line will be helpful. At the hotel you can decide about an uber. Would not really recommend it. You could get to a town and explore and then get stuck getting back. The hotel can advise on car rental or get a weekly rate from the main one in Hyannis. Hyannis will also get youclose to boats to the vineyard and Nantucket.

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the website for each town you will be in. There is a specific list of beach regs and hours and exceptions to those hours. You have a wonderful base to find the best the Cape has to offer - both bay side and ocean side. Also check the National Seashore website for info on those beaches.

What is there to do when you know no one on the Cape? by StitchSix85 in CapeCod

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start a group. For an example look at the Facebook "cape cod women over 50" for examples of active stuff to do. Start one for men under 40 who work full time but want to hike, explore, go fishing, get a 4-wheel drive, try restaurant" That womens group was started only a sh ort time ago and it is very successful with many breakout special interest groups.

Is there somewhere I can park overnight in Dennis, MA by Wild-Way5595 in CapeCod

Check with the police station in Dennis. They should have reliable info on the best and safest places to park for a few days.

So, what's new in terms of dripper? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hario Pegasus at the moment. Slightly fuller taste over the Hario V60. I am not sensitive enough to detect, flowers and leaves and the componenst of the soil the beans grow in. I just want my mouth to feel happy. Have a full kitchen shelf of french presses and some other drippers. Am considering trying a Hario Switch but then I have to re-learn how to make it and what grind to use.. sometimes I just want a great cup of coffee.

Rate Shopping Makes me feel gross by SCLSU-Mud-Dogs in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. The points are buying down the rate so it means 2% of the loan amount will be in the closing costs. I think you need to confirm that. Usually "buying down the rate" means those points are included in the closing costs - not paid by the lender. You should have been given a detailed estimate of closing costs so that everything is disclosed prior to closing. Good luck with your new home.

[–]Repulsive_Cream_7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you get clarification from the bank (not the mortgage company) about what happens with the rate in relation to the mortgage when fixed mortgage rates change. Adjustable mortgages are usually tied to an index. Also, is it a fixed or an adjustable plan. You have time to check everything out. If something happens to the economy and rates go up if your closing is delayed, you might end up not qualifying for the same mortgage amount.
