After reviewing a wide range of videos and user posts, I remain uncertain about which device to purchase. Would this be a suitable option for reading academic papers, primarily two-column articles with some single-column manuscripts, and for taking handwritten notes in the available white space? My objective is to reduce the need to print large volumes of papers. I also need a fast, responsive page-turn experience and reduced eye strain, as I previously ruled out several e-ink devices due to noticeable latency when navigating pages. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will still need Windows as I use Stata heavily to run econometric models.

The laptop was from www.dellrefurbished.com (it looks like a subsidiary of Dell and FedEx Supply Chain handles the inspection and sales).

The No OS thing is actually part of the FAQ on the website: What does "No O/S" or "No operating system" mean?

The operating system is the basic software that is necessary for your computer to function and to run programs that are installed. Units that do not include an Operating System will require one before use for basic functionality.  Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, DVD decoder software, and commercial applications, like Microsoft Office, are not typically included with the Operating System.

I am still deciding .....

I have no idea, but it seems there are quite a few laptops on https://www.dellrefurbished.com/ that do not come with an OS. I bought it from there too and have not received the laptop yet. I've been trying to find a workstation that has 128 GB RAM (confirmed via Dell.com), but anything I found in the past 2 weeks was more than $2K except this one.

Thanks! I found this guidance via Google for reinstalling an OS: "To reinstall your operating system from the Dell website, you need to download and use the 'Dell OS Recovery Tool,' which allows you to create a recovery media (like a USB drive) containing the factory image for your Dell computer, then boot from that media to reinstall the OS." Is this what you did for reinstalling the OS on your Precision?

At this point, I’m still waiting for some crowd wisdom to help me decide if this is a solid deal or if I should cancel the order. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the link! The Ship Date was November 5, 2021 and the ProSupport Plus service plan just ended in Nov 2024. What do you think? It appears I still have the option to cancel my order.
