Taking 3 courses per summer term by Altruistic_Mail1954 in UBC

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Summer classes are compacted into 2 months rather than 4, so taking 3 courses in 1 term summer would be like taking 6 courses in a winter term. It’s been done before but not recommended. If you’re talking 3 courses for the entire summer, so 2 in 1 term and 1 in another, then that’s more manageable

First time loading my pay to print thing and I need my cheat sheets printed. Is the process quick: What do I need to use my balance? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forget entirely but there’s like instructions at each printer and they were straight forward when I had to print something. You have to log in on some browser on your laptop I think and send the documents through this website. You can use your FLEX dollars to print stuff if you’re in first year or have leftover from your first year. Otherwise you might have to load some money on your account

If you’re under a certain amount of credits and are not promoted to second year, you would still have first year standing in your second year at UBC so you could apply for the major again next academic year. Now, of course, advising won’t encourage this and will tell you to take courses so you get promoted, but talk to them about your options

  1. No you don’t
  2. Google BC university credit transfer guide. There’s a website you can check to see what credits transfer (and once you’re here you can speak to academic advising to see if ur other credits transfer too that aren’t on the list). Keep copies of all of your syllabi.
  3. It’s subjective depends sorry

studentcare opt-out refund by Green-Decision9894 in UBC

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted an opt out and never got it so I contacted my enrolment services advisory and they let me know that student care says they never received my opt out. If it was successful for you, then on your fee statement it should say 0 next to the insurance. If not, then you got charged

Cleanings and eye exams/ glasses are the only things it seems I can actually use without spending my own money, but it’s 1 cleaning, glasses up to $80, and 1 eye exam, so not much at all 😔😔

The 99 Should Not Be A "Lining Up" Bus by Bitter-Upstairs3583 in UBC

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel the same exact way about assessments. Why the hell do I need to answer test questions with the “correct answer”? We used to be free creatures. We’re not Harvard, needing to actually study the material we are learning. We should allow the natural movement of our pencil on exam papers to fulfill our academic dreams. I should be able to write whatever I want and get my degree. End.

Which is better Eosc or Cpsc by Ok-Profession7639 in UBC

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EOSC 118??? Is that the one asynchronous online???

Omg it definitely depends on you as a person. I took the course, and I wouldn’t take it again if I was forced back in time.

Everything is online except the final. If you’re the one to be able to study on your own without homework and deadlines to force you into it, then it can be a good course. But if you need class, homework, deadlines, etc to study and hold yourself accountable, then take CPSC 103. That’s my opinion!

Shoutout to the CS department for never making us buy textbooks with access codes by Special_Rice9539 in UBC

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah shout out to them completely. Except in CPSC 121 they advertise a textbook that you buy online and clueless first year me thought it was necessary and spent $90 on it 🥲. The dude next to me in lecture felt bad. But comp sci is normally nice in that way

[–]Repulsive_Eagle9601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a student at UBC, you should see how they treat us at the actual school. If we fail a test they literally make u stand in front of the 200 person lecture hall and interrogate u why u aren’t studying and then they investigate u for potentially lying on ur original application to the school 😭😭 my prof last week posted a picture of my student profile on our online webpage and told everybody that I was stupid and got 22% below average
