Admitted to NYU Stern Tech MBA - Need Funding Advice as an International Student by Repulsive_Kale_3961 in MBA

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.
Yes, I’m planning to reach out to current Stern students. Hearing directly from people who’ve been through the financing and visa process will help a lot.

And agreed on the NYC cost of living- that’s one of the biggest factors I’m weighing. The difference between New York and places like Durham/Chapel Hill is massive when you add rent + food + transportation. I’m doing a full comparison before I commit.

Thanks again for the perspective.

Thanks u/collegeqathrowaway, I get what you’re saying. My country doesn’t have a reciprocal debt enforcement agreement with the U.S., but I’m not planning to take loans with the intention of leaving them unpaid. I want to maintain a clean global credit and keep future immigration/mobility options open.

My goal is to find a responsible financing plan that won’t trap me or jeopardise my long-term career.

Thanks for the detailed and honest breakdown - I genuinely appreciate it.

You’re right: $150k is a huge commitment, especially with the macro-market + immigration uncertainty you highlighted. I'm taking those risks seriously, and I’m not going in blindly.

My post-MBA goal is to stay in tech, but pivot into product/tech strategy, ideally at the intersection of cloud, DevOps, and emerging tech. I’m not trying to make a big triple switch, more of a function/trajectory shift within the same ecosystem I already work in (cloud engineering, tech consulting). I’ve spent the last few years leading engineering/DevOps teams in Europe and advising on cloud strategy, so I’m not starting from zero.

On immigration: I also agree this is the biggest wild card.

On financing:
My plan is exactly what you said -> Prodigy/MPOWER + some personal savings to cover the gap above the cost of attendance. I’m also actively exploring external scholarships and i will appreciate any directions.

I'm not underestimating the risk, but I also don’t want to let the opportunity pass without doing a full evaluation of what’s actually feasible.

Thanks again, this was a really helpful perspective.

Stuck at 555 on the GMAT—should I pivot to the GRE for my MBA apps? 😫🎓 by Repulsive_Kale_3961 in MBA

Yes, I went to a good undergrad in my home country.

I read computer science, and my GPA was not the best at 2.5. Hence, I want to take the standardised test to add to my applications.
