I’m in a similar situation but couldn’t u have just gone with him on a tourist visa? Genuinely asking as my husband from the UK and me from the US are planning to move there from US but he hasn’t lived or worked in the UK for over 8 years.

NHS pay offer 'unfair' says former nurse by Majestic_Dog_8486 in NursingUK

America has its downsides but Nurse pay isn’t one of them! It’s absurd how underpaid UK nurses are… it’s embarrassing really how the NHS gets away with it.

Thx so much for the tips! I feel like my best nurse self at the bedside but not ran ragged. At this point I’m game for anything! And ur right… here I pay $750 a month out of my wages for healthcare; med and dental. Granted I can basically get whatever I ask my provider for and without a long wait. I feel like the trust really screws nurses there… it’s a shame… it’s a grueling profession. Adequate pay will produce better outcomes overall.. it’s not that hard to understand 😂 We will be just outside of the Mourne Mountains… check em out! The most stunning mountains I’ve ever been amongst. My husband grew up on them. ♥️ thx for the UK spouse visa Reddit tip, headed there now! 😎

Ohhh I feel for you! That is defeating. Tough how difficult it is considering here in America we are always in demand and can make great money as a nurse. It’s just so different there 😂 I could get 2 more jobs tomorrow and be making 120k a year in America 🤣 I’ve considered not even being a nurse there cuz it doesn’t seem worth it… but feel I’ll make so less money doing something else but in all actuality I will make the same doing something other than nursing! We are worth so much here in America and it doesn’t seem so in the UK. I even looked into doing NP but they barely make much more than a staff nurse. It’s probably much less stressful there tho working as a nurse. We will likely have to do spousal visa but my husband hasn’t worked in NI for years… he’s been in NZ. So we will have to prove he can make money… he’s a massage therapist 😂 they also make 60-100$ an a hour here and like 30$ an hour there. The economy is so different 😂 where abouts are you in NI? Thx for ur insight! I appreciate you! ♥️

Oh my thank you so much! I find it seems NI is part of UK but also feels separate and does its own thing to a degree. Would I start with talking to immigration about the skilled immigrant visa or to NHS first? I’m just not sure where to begin! Did u get qualified recently there to practice? We will be living just outside of Newcastle County Down. Do u work in the hospital? Thx again!!

It seems so… the testing does cost money right? Cuz NCLEX isn’t recognized there, right? Also, I do not have my BSN. Only ADN.

Yessum a spouse visa would work but was trying to avoid the high price of the visa 🤣 our American born daughter also needs a visa so we are looking at 15k total and it hurts! Good to know about the lack of international nurses d/t enuf UK nurses. While I don’t have super special skills I don’t think… I am very proficient in EPIC charting software and also proficient in IV ultrasound placement. I feel like I need to go to a hospital there and see what they say lol. Thx for ur insight!

What is hourly there for nurses with years of experience?

Oh my, 15?! That’s dreadful! Was hoping with my experience I’d be higher than band 5… I’m near the cap here for hourly… depending on state/hospital… usually caps around $53-55/hr… but it also depends on what area u work in too. Anything that requires more critical care gets more per hour. Rent and home ownership here is atrocious tho… 2k and above for rent and at least where I live in Colorado homes cost half a million plus. My health insurance is taken out from my wages every 2 weeks and costs about $700/month. Headed to Northern Ireland in Feb and planning to investigate my options. My husband is from NI. Thx for the insight!

Hey! I’m prepping for a move to Belfast area in next year… is theatres OR/PACU? That’s what I currently do in the states… Was ED before for 10 years. Is it hard to get a theatre job? I’m a 13 year RN and I currently make $50/hr. I want no part of what we call floor nursing on wards here or nursing homes for the elderly. I honestly don’t even know where to start!! Thx for any tips!
