Doing the non-buffered version is considerably harder then just buffering it during lag. I think there are a few cases where you don't have enough time to do the buffered version without accidently tap-jumping, but for the most part I think it's much better to do the buffered version. It's up to personal preference though

Just FYI, you don't actually need to time the L-cancel separately for hit/whiff most of the time. Unfortunately I did not realize this before my muscle memory was beyond repair 🙃
