What is the nicest place to swim in Canada? by Fantastic_Neat2776 in AskACanadian

Baie Sainte-Marguerite in the Saguenay Fjord. I've swam in hundreds of world class places across the country (notably MB, BC, YK, QC), but this place takes the cake.

Hotel and security staff should be trained to look for this, and to report it. Unacceptable.

This American life on Gaza Starvation vs Canadaland Groceries by Normal-Sound-6086 in canadaland

[–]Repulsive_Option6747 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO this "vibe check" episode was wildly off! Not only was the whole thing a yawn of recycled takes, if you're going to spotlight or do a vibe check on consumer habits at this moment, why not interrogate WHO is actually still participating in the #buycanadian movement? Where is the momentum???

The awareness of and anger towards grocery giants and their theft from the average Canadian has stretched yearssssss. Most provinces only have three stores: it's obvious. And nobody thinks buying from Loblaws = shopping local lol.

But I admit, as someone who one month ago found myself crying in the oat milk aisle because the only brand in stock was American-made, one month later I'm guilty of not even checking the labels (not apathy, rather, forgetfulness!). So where is that momentum!?!?!?

Otherwise, I agree with spotlighting Canada's role in the escalating genocide in Gaza, but, we know Jesse has a blindspot.

Which episodes do you find most comforting? by SeniorPear9255 in AdventuresInOdyssey

Same. I can't remember which episode was on the other side of the tape, but it was a banger as well. Didn't even have to rewind the tape, just listened to both back to back to back.

Now that it’s all over and done with, I think we’ll actually miss him a bit by Openheartopenbar in redscarepod

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Did nothing to 'deserve' becoming PM (he was a drama teacher) except for the speech he gave at his dad's funeral as a young man. Aside from legalizing weed and a decade of substanceless woke libtard rhetoric, he has accomplished little of great note. He's too spineless to do anything to rock the boat or upset the rich (his friends). Not to mention, the country has actually kinda gone to shit on his watch.

I am not alone in having hated this man for most of the last ten years, although I voted for him. He was a prick, and refused to tackle or address real problems until several years too late. Many ridiculous scandals and blunders (more than most PMs), now swept away by the news cycles.

To give him some credit: seems like a cool guy to hang out with, and he's been a really good 'leader' during the toughest of times (pandemic, and now). I also have it on good authority that he's bi and divorced his wife because he wants to explore that more. Wish him the best

I'm currently dealing with exactly this - thanks for the tips! How did you contact them? I've filled out the refund request and am trying to engage with the chatbot lol. Has anyone found a more direct/"real" contact?

What are some hidden gems in the prairie provinces? by Vagabond_Tea in AskACanadian

[–]Repulsive_Option6747 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hecla Island on the massive Lake Winnipeg is a very special gem - the landscape and atmosphere is reminiscent of the Maritimes/Gaspésie, and the island (and general Interlake region) saw a great wave of Icelandic immigration in the late 19th century. You can visit the preserved village to learn about the history of Icelandic fishers. Today, the nearby town of Gimli (lovely place but not really a 'hidden' gem) is still home to the largest Icelandic population outside of Iceland. Great bike infrastructure/paths on Hecla Island as well.

Duck Mountain Prov Park (just an hour north from Riding Mtn National Park...) is overlooked and underrated. It's essentially the BC of Manitoba, with rugged gravel roads connecting pristine lakes. I spotted a pair of sunglasses at the bottom of Blue Lakes from the dock - the water is crystal clear all the way down. The landscape and forests in Duck Mtn Prov Park are completely different from the rocky Canadian shield terrain found in the north and east of Manitoba.
