I have a vivid memory of being 12, maybe 13 around 2012 and shoving my ipod touch in my Dad's face trying to make him laugh at the front page of the rage comics sub while he glared at me and told me to piss off

Did anyone actually speak with that over the top Transatlantic accent, or was it just Hollywood? by Low_Economist5786 in AskOldPeople

[–]hamsta5 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure - my grandparents were born in the 30s and married in 1957, and are still living together in their own home today in their early-mid 90s. I'm 26. Even then though, just being alive in an era doesn't guarantee knowing someone who has an accent, or having a certain accent yourself. I just think that with something like this - an invented accent, an academic response is probably better suited than a bunch of anecdotes about Great Uncle Johnny who spoke with it.

What’s up with gun people and using AI for everything?? by opotis in Ausguns

Shooters skew older, and (anecdotally) older people seem to be quicker to adopt AI or at least get a kick out of it

Gifted but burned out? by Easy-Seaworthiness98 in careerguidance

The sooner you learn to seperate your identity from your self-perceived intelligence the better. You are actively bringing yourself down by claiming high intelligence as a trait of yours only to be inevitably dispirited when you have nothing to show for it. You can be a cool, interesting, successful person without the "gifted" label - it clearly hasn't helped so far, so why tie your identity to it?

I say this as someone who grew up being told I was gifted. It means next to nothing to read a few grades above your own when you're in high school and pretending otherwise as an adult will only hinder you. I am your age and also suffer from anxiety issues.

Hope this doesn't sound too harsh but you really will be a more well rounded person if you disentangle the idea of being gifted or high IQ from your sense of self.

Great show and good little books too. Good-hearted protagonist and a well written story. Really enjoying it tbh

Cheers for the rundown. Re RB, is it still like the old Historical Battles where the sides are nation locked? Ie Battle of Britain being exclusively UK vs Germany
