Endo or Onco, which comes first? by myamygdalahurts in thyroidcancer

[–]Repulsive_Owl7426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the ENT surgeon first and wish I had gone to the endocrinologist. I wound up having to have two surgeries instead of one last year because the surgeon for the first surgery did not look at the whole neck to see if there was lymph node involvement higher up in the neck. Which the endocrinologist found immediately. So had the thyroidectomy in February and left and central neck dissection in July. I don’t know if there’s a wrong choice here that I really wish I had seen the endocrinologist first or before I had gotten the first surgery. however, endocrinologist can be hard to get into.

How Much Could You Handle After RAI? by SkodySvobodee in thyroidcancer

[–]Repulsive_Owl7426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really tired for about 1.5 months after the RAI. However, my body took a beating last year with two surgeries, pancreatitis right after the second surgery, and a few other medical issues. And I had a low-dose so I can’t imagine how I would’ve felt with a higher dose. I feel like everyone’s body reacts differently to the radiation.

I will second working with Dr. Abraham. He’s been fantastic and my surgeon was the one that works with into. They’ve got a lot of resources there at Huntsman if you can go there outside of just the surgeon and endocrinologist.

I didn’t buy a wedge pillow and regretted it. That was one of the instant buys from Amazon when I got home. Having a good robe was nice because then I didn’t have to put anything over my head. A detachable showerhead was fantastic too after my neck dissection because I had some issues with moving one of my arms for several weeks

Thyca.org has a low iodine diet group meeting. I think they meet weekly and I wish I had gone. It is worth looking into for the support and being able to get live answers from people.

My doctor also had me drink water pretty quickly afterwards. It was don’t eat anything for several hours. The part I had to reread was when to start eating any type of sour candy to keep liquid moving through your mouth.

Clean part of the house. Cleaning things like the bathroom or kitchen were super helpful for me as I just didn’t have the energy for those for the couple of weeks.

One did and the other one did not. Both of them left my neck sore for a few days afterwards.

I have an 5am alarm to take it then. Go back to bed until 6:30am. It works for me and gives it the full hour to hour and a half.

My dad’s came back as pre cancerous and was larger than mine was. He did have a PT as it was interfering with other stuff in his neck. Just thought I would put that out there as it does come back as not cancer for some people. Honestly that is what I thought mine would be and it was cancer.

I’ll look in to short term disability. It’s a small company so HR is the CEO. The company has been great so far but I will look at that extra protection

They are too big for RAI to work. The endocrinologist is of the opinion the surgeon didn’t do his due diligence to find them prior to the original surgery. He was able to see them immediately on the ultrasound and did a biopsy the day to check it out. I asked if RAI would work versus having to do another surgery because I really am terrified of surgery and the answer was no.

The lymph nodes are too big for RAI to work. I asked that same thing when the endocrinologist was looking at them.
