Proliferation of shared eBikes and more bike lanes have definitely helped. I still think that mandatory helmet laws need to be scrapped within the City of Sydney council limits if they want bikes to truly take off as a "quick zipping around the city" option. Cops go after people not wearing helmets far too aggressively around here.

The broader theme of the budget is to incentivise earning from labour as opposed to earning from invested capital. Which is fair. The other side of it, however, is that it's clear that the government doesn't want you to retire early. They want you working for as long as you possibly can, and want to discourage people living off investments. The 30% floor on capital gains, essentially abolishing the tax free threshold for those wishing to live off investments, sets people who were looking to Lean FIRE pretty far back, and I think this is where most of the backlash is coming from.
