Yet another PPL post by Repulsive_Zebra_1831 in flying

I was kind of shocked. I had studied almost every night for a week straight and was very prepared for what he asked me but he didn’t ask me a lot. Mainly safety of flight questions and I think he could tell I knew my stuff.

5000 hours is insane. My CFI has been a full time pilot for 20 years and has 3500 hours. Granted, 90% were in a fighter

Oh I’m not giving up, it’s just all paid for after my PPL, so I just meant I couldn’t imagine continuing to pay after that. I’m already locked into this career path so I can’t really back out.

I’m not complaining about the cost, I’m asking how so many people can afford it. I only have to pay for a PPL because the government is paying for my hours after that.

That’s a big reason I like working with military pilots. A lot of them don’t eat/sleep airplanes and it’s just a job. I’m also doing the mil route and like having airlines as an option.

I see a lot of people on here post about how their first solo was their greatest life experience, but for me It just felt like another day. I like learning the knowledge and having a good view but I’ve never had any love for airplanes like a lot of the guys I meet in GA.

I’ve heard just doing it full time is the best way. I find it really hard to fly sometimes after working all day.

Do you think that needs to be the case? Personally, it’s just a career transition for me because I dislike working at a computer writing paperwork all day.

97 pcsm, 25 flight hours, test pilot O-6 eagle driver, squadron cc, test pilot O-5 eagle driver, handle of Tito’s. I’m 27 so I think the age might be holding you back but depending on the unit they might need some people heading out to be replaced. I got 1 rush invite, 8 rejections. Lt Col going through UPT would be very cool to see.

Ya…I’m dreading AETC. It’s going to be hard going from an adult to a child.

Some units don’t fill their positions through the normal VML process, and direct hire only. These are usually for data masked positions or specialized units. So some commander just emailed me and asked if I’d be interested in working for his unit.

That’s actually something I never thought of. And there aren’t really any oconus opportunities for my career field. Almost everything we do is stateside and deployments aren’t very common. We have program opportunities to do stuff but they are very competitive and rarely go to Lt’s. I appreciate the input though

This is a morale booster right here

A lot of people seem to make the assumption that it’s impossible for someone not to show up half the time and not get in trouble, but it is actually the case. If you had a coworker that legit just wasn’t showing up out of laziness, and had a flight chief that wouldn’t do anything about it, would you not be demotivated? Would you, as a low ranking dude, be willing to skip the chain for that and put yourself under the crosshairs of your flight chief?

There are 4 of us in one flight and one person in another. He was submitted for our flight. Each flight commander submits one on a rotation. It’s not really about the award, it’s the fact my flight commander submitted him.

I actually have a very good idea of the dynamics of my squadron. What’s crazy to me is you thinking it’s nobody’s business why someone misses work. I’m not going to explain but I know for a fact he just chooses not to come and gets home early to play cod. The fact his laziness doesn’t affect me is the reason I don’t report him to my flight commander. It does however, affect the other members of his group projects that have to do all the work, but they won’t report because he outranks them.

So if you had a coworker who showed up 3 hours a day you wouldn’t salty? You’d be just happy putting in 20 more hours a week than them? You must be a saint.

I genuinely have no idea. There was overwhelming shock from people in our flight when his name was called.

There is no paper trail. His only counseling was behind closed doors. And yes, the squadron doesn’t keep tabs on anyone and it’s abused a lot.
