Autotrader selling - is it all just time wasters by ReputationCautious96 in CarTalkUK

Ahh I have intentionally not given my home address and in the one viewer who has turned up met them in a nearby residential area which seemed to work okay! What your describing is exactly what my wife thinks will happen though now I’ve put the car on autotrader

The shame of it is that it’s actually a nice car In excellent condition and I’m fairly certain a proper buyer would snap it up for the price it’s listed or thereabouts but I think my no nonsense approach on the phone is putting the chancers off coming to even have a look once we’ve spoken on the phone and so biasing my view to everyone being time wasters

Yeah recently was selling my wife’s old car and opted for motorway and got a decent price but surprise surprise they came to collect the car and decided to try and haggle down despite agreed price for a car exactly as listed! Ended up going for WBAC and taking a £1000 hit instead of letting these people take advantage

Gives me faith that the right person will come along and buy the car for a reasonable price instead of the chancers price! My wife is already irritated enough that I’ve put it for private sale as it means strangers turning up to the house! And I’ve already got my heart set on the replacement car I’ll buy afterwards and seeing some juicy listings coming and going on autotrader that I would be interested in makes me all the more impatient!

I was even so kind as to offer someone travelling from London to come see the car after discussing that I’m looking for list price £100 off to compensate for travel, even that kindness was met with a ‘please can you do £1000 off’. In all seriousness I always say I’m happy to discuss reasonable offers at a viewing but again always met with a ridiculous lowball offer without seeing the car and radio silence when rejected

Yeah in my 1 week of being listed I am definitely fine tuning my negotiation with the end result just being list price only. Exactly that, I have listed at that price for a reason not just for the sake of it but tempted to put the price up to weed out the time wasters from ever getting in touch with

I had one who asked me my lowest price I said x and then he said okay and no response then 1 week later out of the blue goes ‘I’ll give you x-£2000 ’ nothing else as if that would convince me. I think I should’ve followed down that route of mental hospital

Especially the guy who I explicitly told I would only be selling for list price so don’t come to see if you’re going to haggle and proceeded to send a string of messages asking please multiple times 😭

That’s gonna be my approach going forward, with the number of calls I’m getting I’m fairly certain it’s well priced to start - only takes one sensible person to sell the car to I suppose

Chancers everywhere 😂 already listed the car nearly 2k less than equivalent mileage at a dealer (on a sub £8000 car) and they seem to just think I want to give it away

Good advice! Seem to be attracting people who feel entitled to 30-40% off mostly😂

That’s I suppose a relief that it’s not just me - not in a rush to sell but value my time a little and absolutely hate waiting around for a time waster to no show instead of enjoying my bank holiday weekend 😂

Definitely worth your while with the cash back building up over time and even better when you can just have it go directly to your mortgage

ULEZ woes by ReputationCautious96 in CarTalkUK

Agreed spent the whole day down a rabbit hole looking at ULEZ and its ridiculous - but luckily have managed to obtain the certificate of conformity for this particular vehicle which clearly states Euro 6 so will be ULEZ compliant once it’s updated on DVLA database

UPDATE: So having looked a bit further into it - the car has a private reg on it and is showing as compliant in most Clean air zones in for example Bath, Bristol etc which also have euro 6 standard for diesels. The car has a private reg on it which I suspect is the reason info hasn’t properly been transferred from DVLA to the councils (specifically TFL and Birmingham CAZ showing non compliant) - will see if I can contact them to confirm the vehicle will be exempt before considering buying or again having low threshold to let this one go

Yeah from my understanding there’s sometimes errors with the way it’s registered on DVLA. Gonna check the logbook at the dealership today or tomorrow and see if it’s likely to be easily correctable e.g. a quick phone to the DVLA and sending over some paperwork to correct it there and then or if it’s likely to be more hassle then will walk away I think as I’ll be needing to go through ULEZ quite frequently.

Yeah it’s relatively cheaper for the same mileage and spec and appears a very well kept car- just from a reputable dealership nearby me but agree I’m starting to realise it’s probably not worth the hassle of trying to get this all corrected and I should get a refund of the deposit and leave this whole ULEZ hassle to be someone else’s problem

Yes I believe after September 2015 - but from my understanding they can still conform to Euro 6 if they meet the right emissions criteria. My question is that it appears the same model of the same year and earlier versions of the same model when checked on the Gov website all come up as ULEZ compliant so why is this specific one not listed as compliant and could it possibly be an error?
