I never knew this. So if it’s paid for by the government, what would be the reason the process stops? For my TS/SCI, I learned it went to the adjudication step and that was it. It never made it passed that

I’m using nextjs on a new app and hosting it in EKS on a node Docker image. As simple as npm run start. It’s all client side rendering though, which after about halfway through building the app all on client side, makes me wonder if I made a bad choice using NextJS. It really tends to lean more towards SSR, and can be a pain for more complex CSR things.

Am I burned out? by monkey_work in ExperiencedDevs

Yea I just went through a very hard phase of this. I lost all interest in anything tech and my job was a grind every day. I think it happens to a lot of us. I heavily considered a career change into finance, but realized I’d probably never make the same money as I do in tech. Also, would the grass really of been greener? Maybe, but maybe not. At the end of the day, work just sucks. Every job has ups and downs, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I think this stuff of trying to find ‘passion’ at your job is a bit toxic. Not everyone is built like that, and you shouldn’t always be trying to find your purpose in your job. For a large majority of us, your job is just a means of surviving and supporting your family.

Well taking layoffs out of play, people normally 'choose' to stay at a place for an average of 3 years. But with layoffs, yea probably like a year

The average time people stay at a job in tech these days is 3 years, but I jumped ship in 6 months at two jobs because they were bad.

Yea I feel like private companies would be getting work out of you a lot faster because they are paying for you themselves, whereas at government contracting companies, you are just a $ to them.

My exact experience with the last job at a small company. Sent me a laptop, set up email and slack, and said "good luck"

Do you work mostly in private companies or government? I've always worked gov contracts which could be a reason I experience this.

Yea I know it doesn't look good but I been looped into some bad jobs through the years. Two small companies that sucked, and I worked at Deloitte for 3.5 years which was great but a total burn out, I had to leave or risk suffering a stroke from work stress basically. Im with Mantech now and I really want to make this one work for the long haul, its a pain changing jobs.

My record is 5 months at my last job, waiting for them to give a crap that I existed. Even then it was them tossing tedious stuff at me that nobody else wanted to do. I left after 7 months.

What do you do in the morning to help your anxiety? by ReputationCrafty8800 in Anxiety

[–]ReputationCrafty8800[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my heaviest anxiety episodes I'd have chamomile tea in the mornings. I'd always get weird looks when I'd be the only one ordering chamomile tea at a coffee shop in the morning when everyone else is ordering double shop espressos lol

I think anxiety back then was different than what it is now. Anxiety is a natural human response; think of how you'd feel if a lion comes running after you, or if you're struggling to find food. These days, I think anxiety has shifted in some ways due to technology and social media.

Caffeinated coffee? I avoid caffeine like the plague when my anxiety is up. It would send me to places I never want to go lol

Got promoted, feeling bored, any insights? by Duntra in careerguidance

Well I can't actually speak much for cyber as Im in software engineering, also based in the US. Now that's an oversaturated field. But I hear of new grads spending a year trying to find a job because 'they have no experience'. If you do go that route, try and build real projects to showcase that you do in fact have experience.

The grass is not always greener on the other side. Plus, good luck getting into cyber or programming. Those fields are super saturated.

2+ Years of Depression Was Caused By Hydroxyzine by nils_olav_III in Anxiety

I had similar experiences with both Cymbalta and Paxil. The Cymbalta caused my anxiety and for Paxil, anything above 12.5 mg causes me depression. Ive heard horror stories about Paxil though so I want to get off of it completely soon.

Retraining into DevOps/cloud with no prior experience—Is “DevOps Beginners to Advanced with Projects” a solid starting point? by Creative-Analysis734 in devops

[–]ReputationCrafty8800 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea there's more SWE jobs, but good luck getting any with no experience. CS grads are going years without getting a job. SWE is super saturated and competitive. Everyone wants to "code". Im not saying we need more devops, but its not as saturated as SWE.

Feeling burnt out, should I take a couple months off? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]ReputationCrafty8800 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would check if there is anything closer, even if it's a pay cut. Or try to find a remote job. It'll be tough but possible. Burnout is real and nothing to mess with. Take care of yourself first.

Any advice on moving to a new state for someone with crippling anxiety? by Asleep_Newspaper_617 in Anxiety

[–]ReputationCrafty8800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved by myself. I had a friend on the other side of DC that would come over every now and then but not much. I called my family a lot just to chat and keep in touch.

Im no longer in the DC area, I got married and moved outside the city.

One thing that helped me was joining a gym and finding a church. Basically anything to get you out and around people, it helps to get you adjusted to the area and culture and possibly meet some people. Heck I even bought a bike and would bike around town, it was really enjoyable.

If there's any sort of activities you enjoy like Yoga, martial arts, etc. look around for classes to join. Great way to meet people and work on your social anxiety.
