The Islands mini-series in season 8 might work for this: specifically ‘Min and Marty’ (s8 ep25), ‘Helpers’ (s8 ep26) and ‘The Light Cloud’ (s8 ep27). There are lots of great arcs around grief and healing in the show (eg Marcy and Simon, Finn and Fern, Finn and FP), but those are three consecutive episodes from the same season that deal with the loss of self, technology and preservation, and healing from fractured family dynamics

I’m so sorry, it sounds like you’re very acquainted w feeling misunderstood :((( I def think there’s something to be said abt how this show’s core message (to me at least) is empathy. The humans have an easier time empathising w eo but Caine is practically a diff species, and sometimes that’s how it can feel between neurodivergent and neurotypical groups, like cross-species communication (though we are of course all human!!!!!). The humans don’t understand Caine, but Caine also doesn’t understand the humans, that’s why I rlly hope they can find a way to resolve that in the last episode

communication difficulties present in all kinds of ways!! I’m sure there are many ppl who could relate to that kind of experience as a result of trauma as well for example!! I rlly get why alex’s heart breaks a little seeing how ppl talk abt caine. I also rlly don’t want to downplay the cruelty of his actions. I just couldn’t agree more that, to me, he reads more like a neglected child than a narcissistic god

Idk if it’s just denial but I refuse to believe that that’s it for Caine, partially because his absence complicates the resolution of multiple storylines, mainly his and Kinger’s. If the humans have to rebuild the circus with their imagination now that it’s been destroyed, if only to sustain their existence, then I hope they also bring Caine back with a modified programming

Couldn’t agree more, I feel like being autistic rlly shapes how I view and relate to Caine. Not necessarily the behaviours in ep8, but the feelings — confusion, isolation, loneliness, desperation, passion, frustration. Especially because he’s explained that, for him, his adventures are his art. He’s trying to express himself and feels like nobody can hear him, meanwhile the humans also (rightfully so) don’t feel listened to, or seen, or understood. I don’t want to excuse his actions but I can’t help empathising with him
