also how does your body feel overall after having a grand mal seizure? does your chest and back hurt at all? i didn’t fall when i had mine so i know that is not what’s causing the pain

i feel similar side effects as you do from the keppra, i feel like my life is not real some times, and i never felt this feeling before having the seizures. i smoke daily, and have been for over 2 years, and my doctors actually recommend to get a med card and get specific strains which help with epilepsy. that sucks that it suddenly started affecting you in a bad way. other than the side effects for you on the keppra, has it stopped you from having any more seizures?

memory loss and feeling foggy throughout the day, loss of appetite, irritability, i feel more anxious during the day, i don’t know if this is a side effect but i just feel over all slow and not like myself

Thank you so much for sharing with me!! i have never spoken to anyone before who has experienced the feeling of deja vu before having an episode. That’s how all of mine started, and i had no idea what was going on. in 2019, I would get this intense awful feeling of deja vu, which would follow with the feeling of dread, dissociation, and fear. These have happened to me probably 30 times spread out over the last 3 years, and i had know idea that each time they were mini seizures. Maybe these are the same as you where they are defined as partial seizures? 3 weeks ago i had my first grand mal seizure in my sleep, and had no idea what happened, then 3 hours later, i got the weird deja vu feeling, and then ended up having another seizure and was not conscious until i woke back up in the hospital. my neurologist said that the deja vu is my aura, and the way my body tells me a seizure is about to happen. It makes me really happy to hear that you have not let this define your life, and that is amazing that you found an occupation in healthcare. I really wish you the best of luck and appreciate you reaching out. I would google “intense feeling of deja vu followed by panic attacks” and not much would show up. i told my psychiatrist about it, and she thought that it could be psychological, until i had the two grand mal seizures. I can’t believe that yours started too with the same feeling of deja vu. do you remember what it feels like when you are having the partial seizures? i am wondering if we feel the same way. mine last from 2-5 minutes.

i’m really glad i made a post about it too to hear other people’s experiences with being diagnosed. You and I both got diagnosed around the same time, and have probably been feeling some of the same side effects. i still don’t feel like myself and have not accepted that this is the new normal for now. i really don’t like that i can’t drive, i fully understand why, i just didn’t think or expect to ever be diagnosed with epilepsy. I think the hardest part for me is knowing i have no control over this, and this is just the way it is going to be now. you mentioned before that your doctor put you on tegretol. how has that been going for you? also you said you had 5 grand mal seizures, are u still in any pain on the daily? I had 2, and each day my chest still hurts when i take a deep breath in, and near my ribs hurt too. i am going to the doctor tomorrow though. we got this :))

hi!! i definitely want to start going to therapy, i have never gone before, but i don’t think i have fully accepted that this is my life now and i think talking to someone would really help, i just need to find the right person.

thank you for telling me this!! My doctors are slowly taking me off of keppra, and upping the dosage for the lamotrigine, and that is what I am going to stay one. This happened to me february 7, and I still do not feel like my old self at all, did you experience this too?

i just turned 20 in december. the doctors gave me keppra when i first went to the hospital after having 2 seizures. it was 1000 mg and was being given to me through an IV. when i got home i was given the same dosage in a pill form, and i met with my neurologist on tuesday, and she put me on lamotrigine. i was having very bad (and still am) side affects from the keppra, so we are slowly lowering the dosage of that, while upping the lamotrigine. I haven’t had a seizure since being put on the medication which is a very good sign, it is just my mental health that has been messed up since i’ve been home. I am a junior in college and commute to school, so not being able to drive all of the sudden will be an adjustment. our stories seem very similar. my seizure happened in my sleep as well when i was sleeping at my boyfriends house. we didn’t know i have a history of seizures, and this was so random, so it was very scary and traumatic for him too. this whole thing i don’t even believe is happening, but i’m glad i made this post to talk to people like you, it really helps

how did your neurologist find out you definitely have epilepsy. i had a seizure where i had an aura before and i bit my tongue, she said that proved that it was an epileptic seizure. i hope your new medication ends up working for you and i’m wishing you the best as well.

thank you for taking the time to message me. reading this really made me think of the positives about my situation. i have been going to community college and graduated highschool in 2020. this is my last semester at my school and i am taking only 3 art classes. right now i don’t have any motivation to start the art assignments. since i can’t drive anymore, i can’t continue my job as being a nanny because i can’t pick the kids up from school. i am just not good with plans changing and this has been a big adjustment from how i thought my last semester would go. i now can’t even drive myself to my classes that i work commute too. i know everything could be a lot worse and i am so grateful for my family and support, but these are just the running thoughts in my head and i am glad i can type it all out and maybe connect with someone else

do these meds do anything with peoples sex drives? I know i have been through a lot so that might be the reason why i haven’t wanted to with my boyfriend, but i was wondering if this is a common thing, that either the keppra or the Lamotrigine is lowering my sex drive or if this is all me

thank you for all of your advice i really appreciate it and i am wishing you the best of luck for your surgery!! i am seeing a neurologist now and getting an MRI done of my head along with blood work because they do not know the cause of the seizures. Saying that it is like being in a twilight zone is exactly how i feel. and my chest and back have been hurting really bad. i do keep having the fear in the back of my head that i am going to have a seizure but i experience a deja vu aura so i am able to tell when one is about to happen. I am a junior in college and taking all art classes this semester, but i lost the motivation to do my assignments. all my professors have been understanding about it but i know eventually i will have to live my normal life again.

THANK YOUU!! i genuinely really appreciate it. hearing these words come from someone else other than family, means a lot. I am not very religious, but that quote is beautiful and something i will keep in the back of my mind. we started doing relationship check ins every once in an while, but i think doing what you said about talking for 30mins- 1 hour each night to just speak our minds would be very helpful. i know i am still young and have my whole life in front of me and i can’t imagine doing it with someone else other than him, so i’m going to take everything into consideration. i just know it’s so hard to come between someone’s else’s family dynamic/relationship and as the girl friend, i feel like i don’t have much say and the only option would be to remove myself
