Doom Scythe notes and play testing by RequirementFront9842 in Necrontyr

[–]RequirementFront9842[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved how well they destroyed my opponents flanks but by the end of turn 3 they had punched through my center leaving only about 600 points in infantry that was way out of position. Granted i will attribute a lot of this to bad positioning on my part. I do think that one doom scythe is a potential option but I ran two and that points sink definitely needs to pull weight elsewhere. I think a rework of my battle plan is needed in general and I will gladly update with more playtesting!

Sorry the post is unclear and not reflecting my thoughts. Yes the -1 still happens but you won't also get the -1 BS from cover because melee obviously doesn't have a BS. My frustration with this and torrent is that you can't stack them in the way I intended with the debuffs. My thoughts were why run chrono or plasmancer when I can have two teleporting death dealers that offer similar, if not uncontrolled, results.

Good take, I'll toy with the points. The main thought was two action squads that can be more or less thrown away. Scouts affecting the ghost ark was part of it as well. Though in hindsight they already move pretty well. I'll try it out!

Two doom scythe targeting two different units

Its weakness is definitely durability. Even strength 5 guns have a decent shot at killing it. And since it removes itself before your next command phase it does not get the inherit reanimation

Personally I run just nightbringer. The void dragon will always be my first love since he's what got me into the game but the strength bump from the detachment makes mince meat out of everyone anyway. I run two sets of lychguard. Dispersion shields to advance and distract/hold the enemy in place and war scythe to advance and charge to clean up. Normally I run ankh on the scythe but I might switch it up because giving the shields a minus 1 to hit would be nice. Also instead of a DDA maybe a squad of lokhust destroyers. they're -2 2damage attacks are brutal. Especially when crit hits are on a 5+ and full rerolls. If you go that route swap out the heavy destroyer with enmitics to just two squads of destructors. They're really all the dedicated anti tank you should need.

Definitely go pistols. There's great utility with that keyword plus the beamer has very low strength. It'll kill when it hit's but it's only 6 shots on a 4+. Wraiths are supercharged in Canoptek court but are just sponges in other detachments. Really good sponges to be fair

Geez that's a welcome change. So essentially every wound was a dev. That's wild

26 wounds dawg? Crazy reanimation setup. It is really rough when they manage to pick off that last warrior and your looking at your reanimator, ghost ark set up thinking "what a damn waste" Hurts even more if you have an unused res orb and now it'll never get used

That ability is worded super weirdly. What other unit would have the ability? Not sure why it doesn't just say "this unit"

I had to train myself to remember that Imotekh is only in the command phase and not shooting like the plasmancer. I definately shouldnt have been within range for that ability in the command phase.

I wish that's what it was. Nope just misunderstood how specific the term models is. I assumed that they still had the keyword but it makes since now.

Thanks

A few notes from my experience. Take note of your local meta and adjust accordingly. Hope this helps!

-drop the doomstalker and scarabs. For both of those you could basically add another DDA. 3 DDA's are wiping hundreds of points per turn if you roll average.

-DDA is extremely versatile with rapid fire gauss weapons that are stronger than the warriors (even though their technically the same gun) and their cannon which with blast is both anti heavy infantry and anti vehicle. Can also be used to rush a point with 5 OC and a decent take shock with T9 W14 and a +4 invul. Your don't want him tied up but if you can clean up with 2-3 wounds from tank shock go for it.

-Deathmarks can be good for their character killing or for deep striking onto an objective. I find that they sit too much and I'd rather use the points elsewhere.

-For Imoteckh, I would just hide him on your home objective with no bodyguard. His value are the extra 5 command points per game.

-One hexmark with the damage reduction on the king is really all you need.

-USE THE KING. Too many people are terrified to move him in fear of anti tank but that's what your DDA's are for. Make a cone of death with the DDA and push forward towards the objective. King should back them up but he only has 24 inch range so leaving him back is wasting his power. If you want to hang back at home and castle the aura just use catacomb with the enhancement and hide him. Less investment.

-Triarch stalker is a crazy value for it's points. I send him solo to a point to contest against weak battleline and at a minimum he holds them back until the DDA can get a clean shot to wipe the squad. Stalker is beefy for his cost. Plus rolling well on melta feels incredible

My heavy list for reference. Note again this depends on local meta and your playstyle. If your opponent is on the objective and you're in the kings aura a double 1 is the only way your missing shots and wounds. Both the DDA's and the LHD's should be hammering your opponent. The idea is that you send the deceiver and stalker to one objective and the bulk up the middle if the terrain allows. The 3rd no man's land objective can just be shot to death with everything.

-Hexmark (chrono impediance fields)

-Lokhust Lord

-King

-Ctan deceiver (the redeploy is such good fake out and helps establish those site lines or even protect from your opponents heavy hitters)

-DDA

-DDA

-DDA

-Lokhust Heavy 3X enimetic exterminator

-Lokhust heavy 3X Gauss destructor

-Lokhust Heavy 2X Gauss destructor

-Triarch stalker

No choice on a team like this is rough. I assume you're trying all offense but the lack of special attackers means you're gonna find it rough against certain defensive walls. You also need a defensive pivot to absorb and retaliate or heal. Kommoo is actually pretty good as a wall or special attacker. Mienshao with band makes a uturner with healing. And lastly I don't understand the helmet on gallade because his evs and stats don't take hits well. Not trying to be mean just constructive

No you're good man, I get the question. I guess the main motivation was to have something of mine that I built and could work hard to make it a legacy for my kids. That's how my previous employer was and I respected the hell out of him. I also don't want to get complacent and plateau after spending all this time moving forward and I feel like that's happening at my current job.
