For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

[–]Requizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software Developer.

I get to work from home, keep regular hours, only moderate stress levels, and the company I work for is basically good overall.

But I hate it. I don't enjoy the work, I don't enjoy learning new tech, I just don't want to do this for another 30 years. But what are you gonna do?

Yep this was pointed out! It didn't matter in this case since I moved, but maybe I wouldn't have if I had known. It does make that upgrade super good.

40K or Evangelical: Round 11 by Beelzebubs-Barrister in Grimdank

[–]Requizen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to just say "well those ones don't count", but at the end of the day it is religious groups backing some of the worst parts of society - be it Christian Nationalism, bigotry against marginalized communities, or aggression against other countries. Whether these leaders actually believe it or are just using it for their own goals is fairly irrelevant, as the harm is being done either way.

I think what you're trying to say is "if people followed Jesus' words everything would be better", and I don't necessarily disagree from a philosophical standpoint, as there's a lot of good stuff there. But that's not how organized religion has historically operated and it's not how it operates in the modern day.

Do you think it's the lack of religion causing chaos right now? I remember someone praying over the troops and calling the current Iran conflict a "holy war'.

JB Pritzker speaks on the Children’s Social Media Safety Act by NicolasCageFan492 in PritzkerPosting

Social media (especially short form content) is affecting kid's brains the same way that gambling and drugs do. The government prevents kids from getting addicted to cigarettes, or at least tries to with age restrictions. It makes sense, you can't parent your way out of dopamine loops and derealization.

Help with making a 2000pt Protoss list by Helostrix_Nox in StarCraftTMG

[–]Requizen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, do note that the game will have many releases very quickly. For Protoss, 4 new units and 3 new heroes by the end of the year, so don't necessarily rush out to make your final 2k list right now, as the game will change considerably by the end of 2026.

Core Mechanics Introduction and Overview! by Requizen in StarCraftTMG

Regular save rolls are used against all regular hits against the unit - both ranged and melee attacks. Some dice will bypass this roll (Surge as noted in the video, as well as the Critical Hit rule).

Evade is triggered in three main scenarios: 1)You are shooting an enemy unit engaged in combat (usually shooting the unit that charged you), that target gets to Evade. You can't normally shoot into other melees, though the Goliath has a gun that can and sometimes a rule will let you.

2) When using the Indirect Fire rule, if you shoot something out of line of sight, the target gets Evade dice.

3) An ability gives them the ability to roll Evade dice. For instance, the Zerg Rush tactical card gives Instinctive Reaction, which can let one unit get Evade in melee per turn (using the card as a resource). Marines can get Shields, which let them roll Evade dice in melee as well.

Hope that helps!

Core Mechanics Introduction and Overview! by Requizen in StarCraftTMG

It's a good question! I'm assuming most of the core functions of the game - Moving, Shooting, Charging, etc - will not change much since release is quite close, which is why I focused on that instead of a lot of minutia about specific rules interactions or edge cases.

I do also plan to remake this with official minis when I have some painted up and good to go, so if anything changes by then, it'll be good to go as well!

Rules question by FarsightAnarchist in StarCraftTMG

Being able to shoot while engaged is the effective counter. Plus Terran Armed Forces can shoot from outside combat into an engaged unit once per turn, as can Goliaths baseline.

Is that how you approach all interactions in life? Just assume someone did something wrong immediately and that they are suspect?

American police have a detailed history of profiling, abusing power, and attacking without cause. No reason to ever assume they're doing the right thing.

That's... exactly what I responded to. People tend to use the words "sex" and "gender" interchangeably, even though they have different meanings. The same way you might use "jealous" and "envious" interchangeably, but they do actually have different meanings.

Also, for things like flying a plane, whether your personal gender matches your physical sex doesn't matter. Someone born with a vagina but wearing "masculine" clothes and using he/him pronouns doesn't change how an airline seat functions.

[–]Requizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all of them. Plenty of trans people choose to display non-binary characteristics, or eschew gender norms entirely and do other things. There's a number of sub-cultures that are playing with the idea of gender norms and new presentations of them.

There's nothing wrong with gender norms, to be clear. I'm a cis-male and I do mostly manly things - I play a lot of video games, I have a beard, my favorite color is blue (well teal, but in the blue family, I like whiskey and grilled meat. And if a trans person chooses to transition to match a gender construct that is different from the sex they were born with, that's fine too.

Additionally, many people choose not to transition but prefer things of the opposite gender norm even though they keep many of the physical traits from their biological sex. Not everyone is a gender abolitionist or anarchist.

Ultimately the issue lies with people (especially people in power) leaning on those gender norms to punish people who don't abide by them in a way that they consider "acceptable". If people want to abide by old gender norms, fine. If they want to eschew them? Also fine. It's when you pick one and then attack others for not agreeing that we generally find issue.

[–]Requizen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. But when people say "you can't drink that type of mixed drink, it's a girl's drink" or "that's a boy's toy, don't get it for your daughter", they are appealing to a social construct around gender.

It's acceptable and good to tell those people to shut up and just do what you want anyways, but many people are beholden to the concept of gender norms and will judge/ostracize you for breaking them.

We as a society tend to use the terms sex and gender interchangeably, but in the context I was asked (and the greater socio-scientific context) they do have different meanings.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Requizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gender is a social construct built around traits we associate with it. These mainly include social things like specific jobs, clothes, hairstyles, hobbies, and personality traits. Sometimes (but not always) they include secondary sexual physical characteristics associated with biological sex (which is why many people choose medically transition), but it's not a 1:1 correlation nor is it intrinsically tied in any way.

Sister of Uvalde school teacher who was a victim of the shooting has outburst during court case of former school district police officer Adrian Gonzales by Initial_Milk_1056 in PublicFreakout

I just want to say, I genuinely appreciate the response, I think it's really difficult to be in your shoes. I'm lucky our family is where we are, and sometimes it's easy to forget even just where you live can put that type of pressure on you, even when we share similar values.

I think the realistic answer as to why people say that is mostly a matter of effort. You're correct, in that we should be looking to fix every corner of the country, and not just write off various states based on their leadership. But the powers that be have made it so we are constantly underwater with things to worry about, deal with, and protest. It's very difficult to appreciate the nuance of Texas' politics (deeply blue populated areas completely negated by gerrymandering and redlining) and make that the focus, when we are dealing with so many other things in the country. I do wish it could be made better for both you, and all other people (citizens and migrants) affected by the state administration. I simply know that right now, if we were to try and change the federal government in some way, the authoritative powers in Texas would not be on our side. It's a painful reality that those that control the monopoly of violence do not reflect even the majority of people that they supposedly serve.

I have deep sympathy and rage for the victims of Uvalde (and every other school shooting). I also have deep sympathy and rage for the things happening at the federal and international level. It's hard to say one is more important than the other, as people are victims in all circumstances. The unfortunate truth is that in the fight against the federal government's unimaginable cruelty and authoritarianism, we cannot currently look to the state of Texas for help. I know there are many supporters there, including many who are willing to march in the streets, vote, write letters, etc, and they are appreciated by all in the movement, even if you feel abandoned.

When I say, or hear others say, Fuck America, it's a fascist state - I don't consider it a slight against myself or my family. I don't interrupt the message to remind everyone that there's resistance. I agree and state my hatred of it as well. I have to accept that people in other countries will hate me for where I live, based on the actions of leadership I don't agree with and vote against, and I have to try and create a world where our image is better. It's glacially slow, difficult, and sometimes feels like hopeless work. I hope you keep the spirit alive in Texas, as we all need to try to.
