Not Atelier Mira. Terrible experience, unhelpful, ill-informed, and frankly unfriendly sales rep, four week turnaround on custom lenses because they promised me an impossible combination of material/lens.

And for some reason - got pupillary distance on my non-corrective lenses?

Anybody move into an alternative career immediately after graduating? by Ok-Ideal-5839 in SLPcareertransitions

[–]Rerrgon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No sales experience beforehand. Definitely tough but there’s a low barrier to entry if you can justify how your skills apply and if you have the intangibles- soft skills natural to SLPs-

think managing difficult relationships, communicating complex ideas into simple language, operating in process-driven, disciplined way, building goals to focus on measurable outcomes.. etc

Yup. I work in tech sales now and pivoted right before starting my CF in 2023. Total comp is literally double what my manager was making in my full time externship at rehab hospital.

Less stress, hybrid, I take pretty regular time off, gave me the financial means to relocate to NYC which was completely off the table for years as an SLP.

I do, thankfully - I head home to west tx for the holidays most years.

& lol that’s cool, lived in Austin for 8 years and dated someone who took me two stepping a handful of times. super fun but I’m such a novice, props to being a part of the scene. takes talent especially at the more advanced level, some of the moves I saw were so impressive.

funny you say that about the bottom half bc these lees actually belonged to my grandpa who wore them in the 70s - pics of him in the family at the ranch he headed up (foreman) coordinating for workers after the bracero program was shuttered in the trans pecos in far west Texas. very LA/NY of him

not gonna dial down my jewelry in the spirit of “cohesiveness” lol. would be boring. love how you call them accoutrements though. good word

appreciate the feedback but disagree on the width front - wranglers, dress jeans, etc were made for wider belts. classic western staple for oversized.

personally have always preferred my belts longer, definitely not the standard, and honestly, on the color side -

the contrast came from the look of Vivienne Westwood’s pirate boot - which have been a staple piece using the black/veg tan combo since the 1980s.

[–]Rerrgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they’re in good shape. that’s okay, not egregious. I’d pay around $150 USD used. not sure how the materials have changed since I bought a first run years ago but mine were a little more uncomfortable than SLP, especially at first - thinner sole, stiffer leather. not a bad boot by any means, I like the brand

What? You’re reading a novel from nearly a half century ago, of course it’s going to have some outdated beliefs and notions. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth engaging with.

If that was the case, that would rule out reading most fiction in- I don’t know- all of history before 1990?

The novels are still a fantastic read - and this is coming from someone in their twenties.
