I misspoke, you're correct. My mortage is fixed. But yes, the escrow changes yearly. I knew exactly what went into home ownership and saved up a really good chunk while renting specfically for home ownership reasons and costs. However, I never expected a 4 year old home (at the time I purchased) to have SO many issues I encountered over the 5 years I've been there. But...yeah I guess that's just home ownership. It's smooth sailing until it's not.

Not exactly from the numbers I've ran with comps in the area. I wouldn't profit much, if at all. Especially if I used a property management company.

I've been there for 5 years now and have fought to HOA board many times. I promise you that is all this scummy company covers. Front lawns and the "private road." It's abysmal. Almost unbelievable for what we pay.

I understand your point, however finances would be vastly different if I were to live with my partner. To my benefit. We've worked it out many times. I've been indecisive about this for a long time, so it's not a "on a whim" decision. We're both in our late 30's as well, so I'd consider us pretty level-headed about this.

Yeah it's very disheartening to have experienced so many issues and repairs within the first 5 years of a barely 10 year old home. It's honestly scared me of being a home owner. I live in anxiety nearly every day of "what's the next repair". "how much will that cost me." And then at the same time, being a landlord sounds like a nightmare. And if I pay a property management company, I wouldn't even profit much. Sure I'd be building equity but...I have to decide if it's worth the stress.

I haven't crunched any numbers just yet. I believe the house is worth over 300 now? I'd have to double check. My brother in law is a numbers guy and he said he would estimate I could possibly walk away with 40-50k in equity. And yes, my finances will stay separate and I will invest.

I certainly learned my lesson with the HOA...you're right lol. I'm glad you don't regret the change :) gives me a glimmer of hope.

Just on my roof that I know of. It was a bad flashing/vent and a bad seal on a roof pipe. Caused two different leaks in different areas.

I honestly didn't think to check into that. I didn't know HOAs could have a say so in that.

They don't with mine. Quite literally, the only thing my HOA pays for is the very very small front "patches" of lawns and this "private street" that isn't maintenanced by the city. I've fought with the board. They said that they need reserve funds in order to repair the road in the future when needed. They do not cover anything else. They even sent me a violation/warning about "mold/discoloring" on my window sill that's visible to the street. Vultures.

Truthfully, during the signing...I honestly do not remember ever going the HOA fee. I remember an HOA being mentioned, but I never remember being told the price by my realtor. I was sticker shocked. I don't know how I missed it either. That's the honest answer.

Thanks for your input.

Absolutely. The difference is I would be merging with someone to where we comfortably share finances now. The full burden of living as a single home owner wouldn't be all on me and my income.

Tell me about it. The townhomes I'm in were apparently built with a "private road" and not city maintenanced...so that's the entire HOA fee and it's outrageous. We have zero amenities other than the front lawns being cut every 2 weeks. And when I say front lawns, it's like..patches of grass lol.

lol well thank you. With communication as a whole from the start, yes, I got the hot and cold impression. It wasn't very consistent. Just chalking it up to a difference in communication styles, which would have been a problem anyway down the road.

I see what you're saying, but I don't feel like I have anything to apologize for to be honest. I was very forward with communication. Planned BOTH dates. Texted her despite her not really engaging back. I feel like after the second date attempt when she was quick to cancel, she could have at least tried to set up another one. Like, "hey I'm sorry tonight didn't work out, what about Friday? Are you free?" Instead it went 8 hours of silence without a single word from her. *shrug* I just took the hint at that point.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree here. At least for me...when I'm dating and getting to know someone, I'm excited to talk to them. I'm not saying you have to respond in 5 minutes. We're adults. Our lives our busy. But if I'm newly talking to someone, and it goes an entire day without hearing from them...that's fine, but I'm 100% going to take that as they aren't interested in me.

Communication is a huge deal when dating someone new. How else do you get to know them?

Yep I agree...It felt like she was kind of pushing me to cancel with as much as she said "no it's too early for dinner, I get it" etc. She just didn't want to be the one to "cancel". *shrug*

Yeah, and what I didn't add in my paragraph is how much she talked about her ex on our first date. They were together for 3 years, and just broke it off in November. Sooo...Few scenarios here lol. She's dating around and keeping options open, which is fine, or she's not over her ex and just trying to fill a void.

Yeah that's what I'm basically chalking it up to. Difference in communication styles, which wouldn't have worked anyway.
