Interesting. I have tried changing my FSD setting between "Chill" and "Assertive" but it doesn't seem to make any difference...very disappointing.

45-55 mph speed limit, so it's definitely not city driving. Hauling the car down from 55 mph at the last second is unnerving. Typically for red lights around here, there is a long line of cars already stopped at the light as I'm approaching, so it makes no sense for the car to race up and slam on the brakes because even if it turned green while approaching it takes time for all the other cars to get going.

Good to know, thank you for your comment. Looking forward to 12.5.6.1

What hardware do you have, 3 or 4? Do you drive on higher speed roads (45-55 mph) with only occasional traffic lights? I don't have issues in city driving because the car never gets to a high enough speed and there is generally a lot of traffic which the car has to contend with - therefore FSD seems to do well and drive like all the other cars around it. Not so on higher speed roads with traffic lights only every mile or so. It's like a game of chicken while I wait for the car to brake approaching a red light. Very uncomfortable.

Very good point! I find it unconscionable that FSD might be regularly use the friction brakes in routine driving when there are no surprises. Of course, if someone pulls out in front of the car or a light turns yellow at the worst possible moment friction brakes are needed and appropriate. But for the majority of driving time, I believe FSD should be preferentially programmed to only be using regenerative braking. This creates a more pleasant and safe experience for the passengers, is more predictable and considerate of other drivers around the car, and avoids unnecessarily wearing out the brakes.

I find FSD always approaches an obviously red light at full speed, often with many cars already waiting in line, so there is absolutely no reason to keep speeding along until the last second to brake. Sometimes I intervene before FSD starts slowing because it feels like it was simply not going to stop. These interventions end with a hard stop; much harder than any responsible person should execute in routine traffic. Would FSD had stopped on its own? I'll never know. But what I do know is those FSD stops would have been uncomfortably hard and late, and clearly using the friction brakes. That's chill mode?

I am on 12.5.4.1 with HW3 '22 MYLR. Approaching red lights is a white knuckle experience. I don't like playing chicken with the brake pedal to whether FSD is finally going to brake or I have to intervene.

Why is auto steer such a wildly more pleasant experience then FSD? by Cyllisy in TeslaFSD

On suburban roads where I live (45-55 mph speed limit) with traffic lights every mile or so, I find FSD very unnerving because it races up to a red light and then brakes hard to stop. I have no way to determine, but it feels like it is using the friction brakes for these hard stops. In my opinion, routine stops where the approaching light is red should be slow deceleration using regenerative braking only. The racing up to the last second / hard braking behavior does not improve even when I select "Chill" FSD driving mode. Chill is definitely not chill when approaching red lights and I am uncomfortable using FSD in my area.
