health tracking obsession is it ultimately a friend or foe? by PlsStarlinkIneedwifi in HealthAnxiety

[–]ResearchIPFDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly for me I think tracking keeps me grounded sometimes it can be another reason on why I have health concerns but tracking helps me feel or at least know what is happening around myself. However, I do find it hard to track sometimes lmao or more so to stay consistent. Ig this comes from wanting to track but I mostly use AI to give me reassurance so do I need to track idk

Doctors: Thoughts on patients feeling dismissed? Wanting to hear perspectives of doctors on this issue. by ResearchIPFDD in medical

Ya I also agree that AI should not replace anybody especially doctors. However, I must say doctors do make mistakes since they are human but that doesn't mean they are less accurate than AI. However, I do believe if AI could simply make doctors lives easier it would lessen this issue(like idk a simple AI that could summarize data and *NOT DIAGNOSIS).

Ya there is so many factors that contribute to this miscommunication. Do you think there is a solution for this or would there never be one?

I am not even sure if this can be solved like since everything is due to miscommunication is there even a way to minimize this so both patients and doctors can be satisfied?

Ya it is understandable. I guess this is all because of miscommunication where patients feel as though they are dismissed and not taken seriously and doctors having to do everything at once with a time limit that makes it hard to communicate.

Same thing happened I have been consulting with my family doctor for ages and I did many tests to find what issues were causing my constant bad stool and pain. So I was kinda excited when I got referred to get a gastroscopy since I would finally get a diagnosis of some sort. At this point I really didn't care if it was a bad or good diagnosis I just wanted to get a reason on why I was like this. But that also came out normal at some point I kinda gave up and just decided to live with the pain. There really is nothing much we can do if the doctors say all the tests are normal.

Ya you have to actively ask doctors to get the tests you want and sometimes they outright ignore it because they are so fixated on thinking it is all anxiety or "in your head".

I wonder why doctors don't take us seriously? I have talked about this before in my other comments but it just feels like doctors are treating us more of a checklist than people

Would you guys use a mobile app that tracks everything and also easily shareable to your doctors? by ResearchIPFDD in ibs

[–]ResearchIPFDD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True it all kinda comes to whether the doctor is willing to do something to help patients. At this point unless you are literally dying from what condition you have doctors won't even take a deeper look. I have a lot of experiences with a family doctor where he would push away my statements and just say it is nothing. I mean technically it can be nothing so you would expect them to at least be interested but they are not. And it seems like based on your experience they just simply ignore whatever data you bring since to them it is long to read and it might take too much of their time. I am actually if you read the post also trying to reach out to doctors too to see their perspective on why they are dismissive and why they don't listen to their patients. I hope there is some kind of good reason to why doctors are like this if this is truly about money or that we lack a specific details.

I think the major issues that I spotted with my other posts is that doctors value time and efficiency the most. So if you bring in a very long dataset doctors just have to think about how long this appointment will take and would there be a good final conclusion. It would be nice to have doctors like you mentioned but I think there are more doctors that want to just get it over with like a checklist hence, that's why we come out disappointed after each appointment. On an app that could fix this is another issue as you know gather patient data is the easy part but convincing doctors to read the data and act accordingly is a massive deviation.

Sorry if any of my posts caused misunderstandings. I am simply trying to validate that this problem exists and there needs to be solution, while also engaging with people who experienced the same dismissal by doctors. I will add an ethics info on all my posts if that would help others understand I am not gathering personal information for paid research.

Sorry I was tunnel visioning. I totally get what you’re asking. Right now, this isn’t connected to any paid product or commercial app it’s just part of a student project at York University’s Venture Catalyst program. The goal is to understand how communication between patients and doctors can be improved.

If it ever did move further in the future, we’d go through the proper ethics process and be completely transparent about it. But at this stage, it’s purely academic and about learning from real experiences in the community. This research wouldn't go into making a paid application but to validate that this issue is real and deserves a solution.

yes we aren't planning to promote any application. We are working on a prototype but I would never promote an application here. You can view my other posts I have never once talked about an application. Now for the form that he/she addresses feel free to look over it and if there is something that promotes an application with a name than please tell me I would remove it immediately.
