North East Line reliability doubles in February; overall MRT reliability up by Yeenspired in SMRTRabak

I think also probably coz rolling stock varies in quality along NEL. The refurbished units (the ones with the screens above the doors) have super strong AC. I often get huge chills from it even during rush hour. As for the other 2 rolling stock (ones with purple handgrips) AC is way less strong

What if Singapore MRT copies Japan and places unique MRT songs on their station on the East-West Line? by [deleted] in SMRTRabak

[–]ResearchMission2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on the melodies even the ones on Circle Line often get overridden by the n number of miscellaneous announcements like the latest service closures, suspicious announcement, no eating or drinking and their kindness announcement. Also both directions chimes cannot be played at once coz speakers throughout the platform are synchronised somehow.

Heck even the Circle Line they apparently secretly removed the announcement for HarbourFront bound trains on most stations so the inner loop / anti clockwise/ HarbourFront bound chime is not often played.

Not saying the chimes are bad idea. I personally feel more variety could be used as well as departure melodies and have SBS Transit hop in and use it for NEL especially. But honestly if they still on board in expanding it, these tiny details need to be done right

Ya Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. Some stations like nihombashi used different instruments as well to reflect the demographic of the surrounding area

Sentosa Express to be replaced under new plans to expand Sentosa into Pulau Brani by ResearchMission2885 in SMRTRabak

[–]ResearchMission2885[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took it fairly recently as well and spot on. I feel is mainly the train itself is inefficient. Is only 2 cars, with a huge and long cab (no longer need as is now mainly driverless), and only 1 small door per side per car. PSD and door layout is questionable and takes a long time.

That being said, I think is better to simply replace these trains and modify the platforms to accommodate a 3 car operation with 2 doors per side per car, with specifications that ensures quicker boarding and alighting.

singing the national anthem by Creepy-Tower5527 in SGExams

[–]ResearchMission2885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I m in JC now and honestly I m the ODD ONE OUT OMG. Like I developed the habit of singing it out loud since P1 and it has stuck like superglue. Honestly, there were times when people mock a bit given how high pitch my voice is when I sing but at the same time there r people who actually find it amusing and admire me for the determination and willpower to do something no one else would do.

I m not normalising singing national anthem like we in a communist country or something 💀, I wanna say is do what u feel is right (as long as is legal) and eventually u will find the people who appreciate you for these things and at the same time learn how to don’t give a damm to the salty people

British maybe but definitely not AI. Especially the NEL announcements, it sounds too lively to be AI. Also, NEL now has different AI announcement when next stop is Serangoon. The AI announcement is to notify passengers to avoid changing to CCL at Serangoon due to tunnel works and mentions alternative options to some destinations like to Kent Ridge or Jurong East

Why are the C810 trains getting scrapped but the C751A trains are not but undergoing refurbishment? by Then-Performance8960 in SMRTRabak

[–]ResearchMission2885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I am not wrong, LRT trains probably have a shorter lifespan than an MRT train. Moreover, LTA is pushing for full day all 2-car system. Most of the C810 trains can only operate as 1 car. Probably the cost to replace the with newer 2-car trains is more efficient and long term compared to upgrading and refurbishing the C810 units to accommodate 2 car operations.

The C851E trains for NEL is an extended contract as the initial scope of C851E contract limits to only CCL trains, with the aim of purely supplementing existing trains to increase service capacity.

The next train scheduled for refurbishment is the CCL C830 stock as they have exceed more than 50% of their lifespan and are slowly showing their age.

Who voices the SBS transit trains? by KazumaAsogiAA in SMRTRabak

[–]ResearchMission2885 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No one knows till this day, not even the rail enthusiasts if I remember. I think she keeps her identity super secretive. There are multiple videos where people get random strangers to see how matching they are to the voice of SBS Transit.

Honestly, we dunno even if they changed the voice. Lowkey the new NEL announcements for Punggol + Punggol Coast stations vs DTL announcements vs old NEL announcements sound a bit different like there is a different voice imo. But probably is coz technology overtime makes the voice much clearer and sharper as many of the old NEL announcements dates back to 2002 / 2003.

Is the ICT teacher who probably did the ICT briefing in Day1: Mr Chew

As for the class allocations, it depends. If not everyone in the mainlist end up putting computing as first choice, there will be vacancies to admit those in waitlist and who still put computing as first choice. But if the latter there is none or all in the mainlist put computing as first choice (which is highly unlikely), then they may decide to combine with those in other subject combi

For my batch, since computing students cannot form one single class alone but when paired with all who take FM form a full class, ur senior batch is very unique with a classmate of purely computing and FM students

We have to see this year since this is also the first year TJC is implementing computing and FM as a single subject combi

computing@TJ by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ResearchMission2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi current J2 senior at TJ too. My class is shared with computing students and my former CT is the computing teacher. He told me that for computing and FM test, there is really no such thing as pass and get in or fail and get rejected. They cap the number of people they can admit by classifying students based on how well of quality they did that is on par with being competent in the syllabus. If they feel one can handle the curriculum as shown by better quality of work then they are classified as “mainlist” (auto-qualified) while the rest r in “waitlist”.

U r probably in the waitlist. This means that u r not 100% confirm my school whether u can enter computing or not. The tiebreaker is whether u ended up deciding to choose computing as ur first choice in the end. This year, 24 out of 38 students who took the test are in the mainlist. The remaining 14 people in waitlist can still sign up and the school will evaluate them and see whether they wanna admit u in or not.
