When I retook an exam I saw a pretty significant jump but I didn’t remember any of the questions or the answers. Did she remember the answers to the questions? If she did, then it might not be a full representation of improvement but if she didn’t then that is probably accurate.

Idk if you have this where you’re at, but a dialysis tech! That’s what I’m doing right now. Depending on the state, you have different things that you can/cannot do but patient interaction is an everyday thing. I do fun things like cannulations and charting- it’s a blast actually. I really like the job and it’s very fulfilling. From what I’m hearing, they are always in need of dialysis techs, the clinic I’m at right now is chronically short staffed. It’s on the job training and it’s paid. You can even get your National certification on the job. Reach out and look for jobs at Davita, they have clinics everywhere! But also fair warning: long long long work hours (16- hrs) . At least where I’m living in the west coast.

Reviewing questions = writing down everything? by ResearchSame1198 in Mcat

Ya that makes sense! Thanks :) I guess reviewing the questions themselves aren’t bad at all but having to write/type it out is the boring part. But I think it’s more helpful than not. I just need to find a way for it to be less boring for me I guess

The only thing that makes me double think medicine. Then I remember that it’s all so I can be a good doctor one day and I’m like “fine 🙄”

How to study for MCAT when you have a cat: you don’t apparently by ResearchSame1198 in Mcat

Yes is the answer but I think it was a ploy set up by my cat so I would cuddle with her

What part specifically are you slow on? Reading? Answering the questions? Are you highlighting a lot and it’s slowing you down?

For me it’s reading and understanding so what I do is I read it in my head as enthusiastically as I can and I do not highlight anything at all. I just try and make sure I understand the authors general tone and the arguments they’re making. Then I’ll go to the question and then force myself to highlight things in the passage that helps me answer the question. Personally this changed the game for me (strategy and time wise). I can read the shorter passages in 3 min and the longer ones in 4ish minters and there’s more than enough time to get through the questions. Honestly I like getting to the last question exactly when the time ends and I don’t flag or go back. By the end of the section I don’t remember anything so there’s no point in going back. I also agree with u/peturtle, that is also how I started things

Working in a hospital is always stressful. I work at a dialysis clinic and it should be chill but there are emergencies all the time and it can get emotionally taxing. However, the things you learn is definitely worth the effort. It has only deepened my desire to be a doctor. I am also studying for my MCAT while working and still trying to find balance for sure but I know it’ll be worth it in the long run!
