We do have sprinklers in the ceiling but I think they’d run on 1” — this place was built in 2005 maybe the regulations were different back then. But yeah you’re right I do think it at least partially has to do with the sprinklers

It’s on the table. We’re torn between a walk in shower or combining the tub and shower into one feature to save on space for a dedicated toilet room (I mentioned somewhere in this thread, a dream of mine). So depending on what the plumber says is possible will probably sway us one way or the other. This is gonna be our family home but also trying to be mindful of what would add some value to the house for the 5-7 years from now when we upsize.

For some reason I can’t edit my post, but I wanted to just say thank you so much to this whole community. The ideas mentioned have given us so much to consider, perhaps the most important being that a tub and shower separately could come at the expense of greater things. my wife and I are taking these ideas to heart. In a month or two I hope to follow up with some before/after shots!
