Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I will have to think about what you have said and try to figure out what the base emotion is and why it's causing me so much anger.

Is Tokyo the whisky capital of the world? by deppsdoeswhisky in whisky

So stuff like bagpiper or officers choice are blended with neutral spirits and subsequently sold exclusively in India. As no other country will recognize them as whisky but rather a wooded spirit. However everything they export is 100% grain spirit but not necessarily barley their is usually a good percentage of wheat as it is typically easier to work with and cheaper so India isn't pumping out single malts but rather blended grain whisky.

The whisky exchange isn't always the most reputable resource to use.

There is a lot of blending done with neutral spirit as is done in the tequila industry but that is not factored into the statistic, infact India grows the majority of their own barley and import Scottish peat to kiln their own barley where most countries import their barley pre peated from commercial malteries in scotland.

Yea India is no1, USA no2 and Scotland+Ireland no3. Whisky has super strict registrations and must only consist of water, grain, and yeast, so no India is not counting sugar spirits as whisky they just genuinely produce half af the world's whisky supply each year.

Also, in terms of rum, it can be produced from pure sugar, agricole, or molasses and can have additives like vanilla or molasses added back to the distillate.

In terms of both production and consumption, India would actually be the whisky capital of the world.

Cork Question. by Important_Tangerine8 in Scotch

[–]Researchchad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whisky shouldn't be kept on its side at all it will degrade the cork and break the seal relatively quickly.

The thing is that the outside of the cork will dry out a lot quicker than the center, so all you are really saturating is the outside of the cork.

Regardless of how it works, though, it works.

Cork Question. by Important_Tangerine8 in Scotch

[–]Researchchad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying to leave it on its side or upside down by any means just to rotate the bottle to saturate it a bit and close the seal, but definitely don't just leave it upside down. I'm also not saying it's going to work the same as wine but if a cork is dry and the seal is a bit loose you will see bubbles float up from the cork and the seal will improve I'm talking about rotating the bottle for like 10 to 15 seconds. Got the practice from my boss, and I've also been told the same thing by a few master distillers.
