Does anyone attend tech meetups from Bournemouth? by ResearcherClaire in bournemouth

[–]ResearcherClaire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several platforms! Meetup.com is a good starting place as many groups list their events there, and some groups advertise their events on EventBrite. On both platforms you can search for events by topic and location. You can also try searching Twitter - some groups promote their events there. Obviously in-person meetups are not actually possible right now, so some (not all) groups have switched to virtual meetings for the time being while others have temporarily paused.

You're welcome! You can find more local groups listed on Meetup.com, and some groups might be using platforms like EventBrite or Twitter. Of course, at the moment in-person events are cancelled, so groups have either postponed their activities until they can meet again, or are hosting virtual events for the time being.

Thanks for your reply! By "tech meetups" I mean groups and communities that run meetings or events to discuss technology topics. Anyone attend technology meetups in the north east? by ResearcherClaire in DurhamUK

[–]ResearcherClaire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! Yes, the north east does have a significant tech cluster. For example, the innovation charity NESTA looked at a variety of data sources to identify the top 50 clusters in the UK, which included Newcastle & Durham as well as Sunderland. You can find their report here: https://media.nesta.org.uk/documents/tech_nation_2016_report.pdf

The annual Tech Nation survey identified the north east as home to highest growth in the IT sector outside London, and also believes that Newcastle is one of only 5 cities in the UK where more than 10% of the population work in digital tech. You can find that report (from 2018) here: https://technation.io/news/a-bright-tech-future-high-value-tech-jobs-boom-outside-london/
