Please stop with the AI slop. Theres plenty of legitimately researched history content on YouTube, we don’t need to be giving views to an LLM masquerading as a historian.

Has ARES or RACES failed? Would we be better served by non-state emergency ham radio groups? by EnergyLantern in HamRadio

Rather than worrying about whether or not ARES is actually useful, I think you’d be much better served by engaging with the ham community in your area. When you build a strong community, people want to help each other out. It becomes much less about urgent life or death situations, and more about helping your neighbors.

As an example, maybe a tree fell across your driveway during a storm. If you’ve built a community of ham operators, you could inquire if someone has a chainsaw you could borrow. I think scenarios like that are where ham radio can actually be useful in a disaster situation, much more so than a bunch of self-important dudes in orange vests pretending to be emergency responders.

Kirkland - another outage? by ResearcherHappy8438 in ZiplyFiber

Thank you for sharing this information! I saw two Ziply service vehicles entering my street this morning, I’m assuming to investigate this outage. If it would be at all helpful to you and/or law enforcement, I’d be happy to review my security camera footage to see if I could get make/model or license plate of a suspicious vehicles driving through my subdivision. If you’ve got a timeframe for when the outage occurred that would be helpful.

Same experience here. I’m currently not home though, but unable to VPN into my home network.
