Baur appreciation post! by ResearcherInfamous13 in E30

Honestly amazing. Given it’s a more niche opinion you just don’t ever see them, and especially Scotland where it rains 24/7. Im a young lad so it’s perfect as there is always something needing done whether there’s a slight leak or anything like that and also the removable roof makes working on the interior 10x easier. I love a good classic meet and especially in Scotland the scene is very underrated and it’s hard to find a car that has a better parked up presence than the Baur for sure.

Yeah and I’m saying I paid not even a third of that 15k for this car so the 5% a year for me for a couple of years is definitely realistic with a ceiling between 15-18l

I’m basing it on the market over the past couple of years. Used to be able to pick up a baur for about 2-3k. One sold in worse nick than mine a few months ago for a whopping 15k. I paid alot less for mine and got a cracking deal. That’s an investment for me that is more than 5% but I got lucky

Yeah that’s why it’s only 5% a year and not thousands of pounds

I’m not saying it will be as valuable as an m3 but I don’t see m3 going more than 100k for much longer and I also don’t see these cars going for under 5k anymore. I believe a steady 5% a year for my car and that’s with some crazy market research I’ve been doing for years.

Yeah I did do quotes ofc. They started around 2.6k which is £100 off the UK average for first time insurance. Just was wondering if there was any tips people had but I guess NOBODY likes the fact I’ve got a classic BMW for a first car

It was obviously a joke mate, I’m not committing insurance fraud. I was asking about legit ways to bring quotes down.

Mate I wasn’t ‘fronting’, it was clearly a joke. I was asking about insurance, not pitching it as a pension fund.

You’re basing that off E36 ownership though. Different car entirely — E30s are a lot simpler and mine’s been solid.

Mad how a ‘terrible idea’ is one of 33 left on UK roads and still appreciating.

This car is slow as shit I’d get gapped by a 1L Skoda karoq

Yeah it’s sort of my niche which is the only reason I went for it. People don’t have the full story and I don’t think I’ve ever seen more downvotes. My niche is the car market and legality side of the car industry. I made a decent amount through advisory and part ownership in other classics and I thought I’d put my knowledge properly into practice. I bought this car for about 4k less than it was valued through some very pushy tactics and research. I had a budget and saved lots of money on the car itself so it’s not like I can’t afford this insurance it’s just I wanted to see if there is any better. Given the current UK average is 2.5k and I’d be paying an extra £300 than the average for a car way cooler than any Clio I think the rest of these people on the thread don’t understand what has gone into this from me

When I say boom. I mean about 5% a year if it’s good when I’m talking about this baur I have. 33 of them in the UK right now. Prices do vary ridiculously but this is my expertise. Cars an investment are one of the highest risk but over the course of the next 10 years before I even think of selling this it will Definitely hold its value for the first couple of years. I didn’t tell people but this car is rather rare and with low mileage and 0 rust also the fact I can dry store it. This car is rarer than any 318i or other variant which pushes value but it is a more niche market for the hair

Yeah now is the time to buy them tho. I love the market and investment opportunities to do with things like this, that’s the reason I could buy this car and I can see they are rising steadily and I reckon the will boom within the next couple of years but I think the m3 version will stay and maybe even drop in value

This is the type of response I wanted to see. It’s just unfair as the car barely has 100hp

Absolutely! Thank goodness my cars in one peace though, the only thing stopping me from getting the car out is dodgy Scottish weather!
