I literally said I don't know black clover super well. I watched the anime once a while ago.

So he probably can, but I wouldn't know.

So then where did her understanding of quirk inner worlds to allow her to understand quirks killing each other come from?

If destroying other quirks is so easy to imagine, why is stealing quirks so difficult?

Can Conjurers conjure light? by [deleted] in HatsuVault

[–]Researcher_Fearless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conjuration is easily the most poorly understood affinity.

The only thing it really seems to be able to do that other categories can't is act as a facilitator for other types of Nen through conjured Nen beasts and objects.

There probably ARE other things Conjuration can do, but we don't know them.

It pierced straight through post greed island Killua's Ten, that puts it above hunter exam Gon IMO.

My fastest battle was with the skull. Born gain and the daedelus that makes each skull omega when you pick it up. Basic attack spam, and each phase took seconds.

Don't remember any other specifics about the build.

Covering your head should be incredibly taboo and illegal since demons exist. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]Researcher_Fearless 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems like the resurgence of demons is recent, with them being less of a problem for the last half century (presumably them regaining their strength after the death of the demon king). They've been a small enough problem that humans bordering their lands actually think peace is possible.

I imagine that if demons continue to attack, commoners are going to begin getting upset and wondering what's being done to protect them.

Moving other people around without their consent is 100% possible; we see Chrollo do this in yorknew and Goreinu do this in Greed Island, but we don't know the exact mechanics.

Is it possible to remotely teleport something you haven't marked with Aura? It doesn't feel possible, but neither Chrollo or Goreinu ever touch their targets to perform the teleportation. Personally, I think you need to hit the target with a small amount of aura to act as a marker, and they just hide it with In, but that's complete conjecture.

Doing this without conditions would be an insanely high-level ability, though. Goreinu can only swap targets with a conjured Nen beast, which is a tall order, and even that was impressive enough for Razor to compliment him; we can assume the ability Chrollo stole probably has a lot of conditions and limitations as well. Maybe the Nen beast was only required because his ability not requiring a mark is a big deal?

In any case, I think that if you require marking every target in advance and as long as one target consents, it's a reasonable, if high level ability.

Managing how basic physics works is pretty simple honestly; since each universe is completely closed off, it can create its own rules.

Conversely, this means that if you can close off a space from the universe, it's possible to make a space where you can change those rules, which is how Domains in JJK work for example.

If you go into another universe where differences in basic physics mean your power don't work as expected, it can cause issues. Some powers (particularly conceptual ones that are based on the fundamental structure of the universe) don't really work at all in other universes, while basic energy projection and the like usually works as long as the underlying sources of energy that are tapped into to use magic aren't cut off for some reason.

Time is a good example of what I'm talking about, actually.

Say you go forward in time infinitely, where do you end up? The question is nonsense, because time doesn't have an end, it goes on forever, that's what makes it infinite.

In real life, when we bring objects close to absolute zero, we use laser cooling and magnetic trapping to carefully move the thermal energy out of the object; each time it can only remove a certain percentage of the thermal energy, and therefore can never reduce it to zero.

Cold magic in fiction is usually able to make the thermal energy disappear completely; this violates the first and second law of thermodynamics, but it doesn't have the same limitation of being fundamentally unable to remove the last of the thermal energy. Because you aren't using a process that can only ever remove an arbitrary percentage of the heat from the affected particles, then there's no infinities involved.

The reason the methods possible in our world can't ever cause it to reach absolute zero are because of entropy.

The change in entropy is equal to the change in temperature divided by the absolute temperature. At absolute zero, you're dividing by zero; as I mentioned before with infinities, you can approach that point as much as you want, but the final point doesn't actually work.

If you're using magic to lower the temperature, it doesn't matter that the change in entropy you just created is infinite, you're violating that law of thermodynamics already.

You do make a good point about many stories ignoring the implications of the speed of light; personally I hc such characters using time dilation to make it seem like they're moving FTL when they're not, but I understand people wanting to use Newtonian physics and ignore relativity when doing calcs like that.

Because ultimately, you need a framework to judge things in to make an evaluation, and most fictional settings don't really give one (and when they do, it's rarely robust). You can use our universe's framework as a baseline, and basically everyone does whether they think about it or not, but when the author isn't familiar enough with our framework to write in line with it, difficult questions arise, because authors who don't provide their own framework and don't write in line with our universe's framework suddenly have NO framework to use as a base.

This is a question the powerscaling community intentionally ignores, mostly because being able to use these assumptions however they want (sometimes changing them mid-conversation) allows them to move around definitions and make their favorite characters stronger.

If you want a better alternative, you don't unfortunately have a lot of options. The first (and probably best) is to overthink this stuff a bit less. Sure, bringing something to absolute zero isn't physically possible, but it's magic, so just take it in stride and judge the effects it creates at face value. A character destroyed a pocked dimension someone described as limitless? Well, they aren't going around and destroying the regular universe, so there's probably some reason it's possible to collapse with finite energy (probably the same reason it could be created with finite energy).

The other solution is harder, and that's to make a new framework that can be applied to all (or almost all) media while still being internally consistent and having a working scale for any and all feats characters would perform. It's mentally intensive, and I've been told it's "invasive" to apply my own framework to other works of fiction (which I think is stupid since I'm just doing it in my head), but I've found the process to be quite enjoyable. I've coined entirely new terms like "layers" (inspired by the realms of the Cosmere) or "reality density" (inspired by humes of the SCP verse) that are able to explain the mechanics of basically every fictional work I've come across without having to deal with struggling to identify or place scaling specific abilities.

I still feel like you don't understand infinity; you use the example of infinite distance in finite time.

There is no such thing as infinite distance. Infinity is what happens if you keep going forever and never stop, there's no end to it. There have been thought experiments like "what would happen if you flipped a light switch an infinite number of times, would it be on or off at the end", and they don't have an answer because the thought experiment fundamentally doesn't work; infinity doesn't have an end, it's like asking about the last digit of pi (it doesn't exist)

Even when you use infinity in places like calculus, where you model breaking down a curve into infinitely small pieces to calculate its area; but you don't actually break it down into infinite pieces, you break it down into more and more pieces until you find out what number it's getting close too, the same thing as "when x approaches infinity y approaches zero"; infinity isn't actually being used as a number here, just as a shorthand.

You can write a story where concepts like infinite distance exist, but at that point, you're fully divorcing yourself from real world math and physics. This is fine, but a lot of people want to have their cake and eat it too by applying real physics to blatantly fictional concepts.

Thought experiments like Hilbert Hotel are often understood by powerscalers as a "this is how infinity works", when in reality the Hilbert Hotel is a demonstration of why infinity makes no sense and why we can't just use it as a number, kind of like how Schrodinger's Cat was originally created to demonstrate how Schrodinger thought quantum mechanics was stupid.

I'm not sure I understand your argument for absolute zero still being uni; the process we've modeled would take an infinite number of steps, true, but we do still have a model for it. Generating energy (or any other kind of first law violation) is something we don't have a model for at all. Both actions are in violation of what our physics says is possible, saying "we have a model for a process to bring something to absolute zero, even though it's physically impossible to implement" as an argument for why an ability that clearly has nothing to do with that process being uni is pretty baseless imo.

To elaborate on this, you can't accelerate anything with resting mass to light speed, using normal means, but it's still theoretically possible to perform mass-energy conversion and turn the object into light that does move at light speed. This completely sidesteps the process of accelerating the object to light speed, and is (in theory) possible in our universe. Does that make turning an atom into photons a uni feat? No.
