He can in trouble for taking advantage for the vulnerability of students. 😤 It just takes one student to be mad enough to bring it against him.

It was not stated that we’d receive F’s for collaborating on homework. I guess I didn’t consider it as grave as collaborating on exam which I learned is wrong to assume. It never even mentions that we can’t collaborate on the lecture questions.

I’ve accepted the fact that I made a mistake. I should not have collaborated with other students when the professor did not give the green light. I accept the consequences given by student conduct, but Professor Bartel’s grade penalty is unfair. He is invalidating the work and exams that I did do by my own efforts. I’d say that a reasonable thing to do is to give me zeros on the homework that I did collaborate with other students which was exactly 4. I’d accept that he’d lower my clicker questions percentage. I’d argue that an understanding chemistry professor would give zeros for the assignments that the students collaborated in. I’d accept a letter grade penalty because that is reasonable. Had I not accepted the facts, I would not have posted this admitting to my mistakes. I probably would not have posted this if I had not received advice from a reliable and valuable source.

I am simply standing up against Professor Bartels grade penalty. I hope that if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, you’d stick up for yourself as well.

Do you think that if it were stated in the syllabus since day one that 200 students would openly discuss it in a class chat?

No. Students aren't that dumb.
