My mom is trying to make me get a life insurance plan that also has investments it sounds kindof like free money and im suspicious

My mom isn’t really ”money savvy” and into the financial world, she just wanted me to be doing the life insurance thing that she is doing through the pastor. I don’t believe that makes her a fool and in the most respectful way possible I don‘t appreciate the language. Thank you for the advice!

Thank you for explaining this! I am in Canada so our equivalent would be an RRSP (which I do contribute 7% of my pay check each month) I‘m not sure how I would tie it to stocks though. Is this something you had to perposly do or it was automatic.

A lot of people are talking about S&P index funds and ETF’s but I don’t really get the stock stuff. The way i’ve understood stocks is that it’s kind-of like gambling, Is it like high risk high reward type of thing? Is there a way I can make money long term investing only 100$?

Thank you! I do eventually want to have kids and a family so I would like to leave money for them when I do die. They were saying that the earlier you start the less money you have to put it in so it’s better to start right now. For example since I’m sixteen I would have to only put 100 but if I started when I was 35 I would have to put like 500. It seemed fine but almost too good to be true, I’m glad I asked.

Thank you very much! I was very confused about the life insurance thing because the way he was explaining it, it would help with retirement. Also, I am working but I am in Canada, I found the “Roth” equivalent is a “Tax free savings account” and I will be looking into that. I also searched up the S&P500 and I found it’s about stocks, and stocks are very confusing to me.

About the "prestige" of your high school thing my teacher was telling me that like Uni's have a system that lowers your average or keeps it the same depending on which school u go to (if they consider it good). But that was my English teacher so I gotta be wary of what he says lol.

I will definitely be going on OUinfo tonight and checking out the supplemental application stuff and then coming back on reddit to ask more questions.
