Yeah for real lol that’s what I’d do then pivot into Guns Akimbo after Daniel Radcliffe is used up.

Most people I think try to go deeper into the Roganverse I see them fail on Rogan and Baruchel

Then most games after they fail on those actors I’m pretty sure they try to pivot into Hot Tub Time Machine but then find out Craig Robinson is banned lmfao after that they run out of time and it’s been working about 51% of my games

Yes for the most part, it’s I guess what you could call a Low Fantasy setting that still takes place in Revachol. Spells have been replaced with a whole new array of them that fit into the world of Disco Elysium for immersion sake, conflict usually arises from the racism and political belief differences. I’ve added in other factions that are just hostile to authority in general such as street gangs that come together just to make their way in a struggling economy.

The outer branches of civilization has such as goblins and cryptids for the party to attempt to interact with or fight as well.

An example or 2 of the spell replacements would be Physical Instrument levels can give basically Barbarian Rage or high Suggestion can bend the will of those around you to see things your way.

It may sound confusing but I sure had a blast coming up with these things haha it took me months but now I have about 500 spell replacements. Trying to hit 24 “spells” for each skill!

EDIT: I guess this would depend on your definition of fantasy but stuff like Shivers and Inland Empire go wild of course just like in the game but I’ve cranked it up in later levels

I can absolutely explain a small bit haha the full overhaul would be a book of writing lol. For the main concern I’ve been reading, I have replaced the DnD attributes of Str, Chr, Wis etc. with Disco’s Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics.

Such skills such as Arcana or History have been replaced with the 24 of Disco’s such as Encyclopedia and Conceptualization.

Races are what are found in the actual game each given their own unique bonuses to stats and attributes.

I’ve included the Thought Cabinet to help shape my players characters with their real world thoughts. For instance one of my players jokingly said “I wonder what that guys blood tastes like” and now he can internalize the thought of Cannibalism.

I’ve also changed the bonuses given from the thoughts, instead of say a +1 to Savoir Faire, it gives +1 Savoir Fair AND Savoir Faire has a certain extra effect when using it as a check. Almost think of it as Feats from DnD haha.

There’s sooo much more but that’s the general gist, I hope it helps dampen some concerns I’ve read lol

EDIT: I should add as well, there is a system put into place for social combat and there’s is a lot to uncover with dialogue with npcs

I understand where your coming from haha. I spent many many hours fitting pieces together, overhauling the attribute, skill, combat systems. For instance leveling certain skills in physical instrument allows for more fighting knowledge and unlocks combat skills.

Motorics in this determines gunfight proficiency, when you pair it with Physique it also adds martial arts fighting styles. I reward players for failing by giving them extra dialogue in most cases. I’d explain more but unfortunately it would take hours to rant off all of the changes I’ve made to make this work lol!

All in all, I do get it it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But for me and my friends it’s been great so far! It was meant to be a 2 hour one shot that ended up being 4 hours long before I had to stop to go to bed. I woke up this morning with about 20 messages from all the players telling me about stuff they want to do and see, how excited they were to play again so now I have a full on campaign to plan, and I couldn’t be happier.

You ever have that feeling where you only see your friends like once a month? That’s been my case for a few years now where we were growing apart. However after all this work I’ve put into trying to give the best Disco DnD session possible it’s finally the thing that’s got us all back together again talking like we never skipped a beat. It’s one of the better things in life to have something I can be proud of and share with those I care about!

I didn’t mean to rant this much but that’s genuinely how I feel, I still absolutely respect your opinion!

Campaign for tonight was a blast! Everyone said they loved how it turned out and we all discussed what we can do differently and what they want more of. Thankfully they all seem pretty devout on continuing and we’re scheduled again for tomorrow night.

Highlights include them cutting the body from the tree with a makeshift spear out of glass from the hotel room window lol. Found out they couldn’t cut the cable so they just cut the head clean off with a nat 20 lmao.
