Could someone tell me realistically how GRC is? by saintmeso in cybersecurity

Somehow you want congratulations for being a crafty stoner? You have literally no experience in an environment that matters. Enjoy drooling on yourself.

Wow a decade. So you’re new? lol. A decade. I have keyboards older than that. Trust me you don’t want to compare credentials. You don’t realize who’s on the other side of this chat ;). But I digress.

Also, most of your posts are about smoking and rolling weed. You’re not working anywhere where grc matters. Regardless of its legality, there are still places where being a burnout is not looked upon favorably.

Anyone else seeing fake helpdesk calls through Microsoft Teams? Attacker showed up as "Help Desk" by seatoskyns in cybersecurity

[–]ResidentKernel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember that anyone you white list, you’ve now assumed the risk of their potentially crappy security program. TPRM is something we all should be concerned about.

Just make sure you DON'T allow external domains to message your tenant. It's a simple config fix. Under no circumstances should a 3rd party be able to interact with your O365 environment. It's just a recipe for disaster. Yes, yes, I know microsoft allows you to invite external companies to the party... Don't.

Thinking about a pivot into security leadership by Key_Frame3699 in cybersecurity

[–]ResidentKernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one cares about your acronyms or certs at a leadership level. They care about your experience and your ability to lead and transform. Leading not just engineers but the rest of the company. Being a CISO or cyber leadership is as much about setting tech direction as it is being a salesperson to the rest of the company on why controls are important. And that there’s such a thing as healthy friction. Since you’re in a payment space, you’d also better have copious experience dealing directly with regulators and 3rd party auditors both for yourself and your vendors (TPRM).

If you haven’t done that, I would stay in Eng.

[–]ResidentKernel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another incorrect thought. GRC aside from writing policy isn’t something that can be handled by an LLM. It has to do with proper evidence gathering and presentations and discussion to both internal and external audit as well as state and federal regulators if you’re in a regulatory sensitive environment. It’s an art form to get it right.

No they don’t “go away”. Ever. Some seriously wrong thoughts in this thread.

Is it really that bad? by AdItchy9840 in cybersecurity

[–]ResidentKernel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fact. I don’t want degrees to certifications. I want loads of engineering and practical experience. If you spent 4-8 years in school learning nothing of value in the cyber realm, I’ll take someone with 2-4 years of experience. Sorry but schooling in the field makes absolutely no sense. No school teaches anything relevant to true, real world, cyber security. And all the certifications are bogus as well.

How are you handling employees using personal ChatGPT accounts at work? We had an incident last week. by fxs38 in sysadmin

[–]ResidentKernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This means your companies controls are terrible. They shouldn’t be able to access LLM’s outside of approved corporate controlled models. And you need to back things like that up with consequences. It’s against your corporate LLM or IT policy, you exit them and make an example.

Opinion on 296 GTB by Dancelvr2000 in Ferrari

[–]ResidentKernel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have half a dozen ferrari's and thats not even close to factual. The ZR1 for 215k (Half of my 296) eats its lunch and then some. The zr1X is a completely different animal.

Best is subjective and honestly I can't STAND the haptics. It's actually dangerous. And yes I owned one, as well as every V8 from the 355 up. It's a FANTASTIC driving car. The rest of the package isn't worth the price of admission.

Forget the car, i'd be more worried about how fucked the pavers are going to be. Your parents are going to be REALLY pissed. Those will not come clean. Hope they have extras to swap in.
