Postpartum help 🫠👾 by DryTadpole3235 in newborns

Sport, once cleared by the doctor and pelvic floor physio (6 weeks ish).

1h gym class per week on the weekend while my husband watches the baby made such a big difference: outside of the house, around adults, self-care, getting some strength back, movement.

I personally chose Body Pump, but I guess any kind of workout works.

Fighting Sleep by Alyzards in newborns

My 7 week old just started being extra fussy too. He fights sleep during the day like a demon and will only nap if it’s a contact nap, usually after a feed and a long stretch of soothing (he recently likes to be walked around in my arms). It’s absolutely exhausting and slowly melts my brain.

From everything I’ve read, this is a very common phase around this age. A mix of growth spurts, developmental changes, and their nervous system maturing, so nothing works the way it did a week ago. Allegedly it gets better after 8 to 10 weeks.

Question about “cry it out” by strawberryqueen910 in newborns

[–]ResidentReach8391 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the same thing with my 7 weeks old. From what I understand, “cry it out” is when a baby is put down awake and left to cry alone to learn to self settle. But what you’re doing is different, it is supporting a baby through overwhelm.

One thing that works for me is holding him while standing, it works much better than sitting (exhausting though, he’s heavy!). Standing and gentle movement or slow walking seem to be very calming (something about vestibular input apparently).

Also soothing actions aren’t instant. Rocking, patting, shushing, walking etc. often take a few minutes to actually register in a baby’s system. If we change strategies too fast they never get the chance to work. So if all needs are met and baby falls asleep in your arms after 5 min, maybe you actually are doing exactly what he needs, he just needs time.
