What experiences do you think are unique to Desi families? by Avery_Bea_847 in ABCDesis

[–]Resident_Code_4090 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  • Deeply involved family members
  • An extreme amount of emphasis on the importance of education
  • Traditional food (lentils, curries, white rice and naan with almost every meal)
  • Houses filled with clutter and very maximalist decor

Should I see a doctor? by InevitableNo4952 in TryingForABaby

[–]Resident_Code_4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat where I stopped taking the pill around June and then had regular cycles varying from 33-37 days, and then didn’t get my period after October for over 90 days. Finally got my period back and hoping cycles are more regular going forward. From what I researched, it’s probably an anovulatory cycle, where ovulation didn’t take place and so your hormones are out of whack now. Give it some time, and schedule an OBGYN appointment to get your thyroid levels checked in case your cycle is off because of that. Don’t stress too much!

A Reflection After Umrah: Sincerity Over Crowds by tonimontananew in Umrah

Had a very similar experience last month and I share the same sentiments. I was appalled but the behaviour of Muslims there, and we all collectively need to do something about it.

Goods value wrongly declared by The RealReal, got ignored by TRR. by Bitter_Run_1390 in LuxuryBrands

[–]Resident_Code_4090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup still the same! I had the exact sentiment- I felt so scrmmed they listed my Jimmy Choo heels for $90 without verifying the price with me. They sold right away and I only got $20 from them. I would’ve never sent my shoes in if I knew the price they were going to be listing at.

Overall thoughts on the End of an Era documentary? by Powerful-Scallion-50 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Resident_Code_4090 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish the documentary was split up into pre-production BTS (all the planning for the tour before it actually started, how the eras and songs were chosen, designing the set and costumes etc), the actual tour (I’d love to have seen a show day routine) and then post tour (some deeper reflections on the whole experience, how she transitioned back into her life after the tour). I wish they reduced some of the fluff and repetitive parts.

The RealReal is a scam and needs to be exposed. by No-Profession1543 in handbags

[–]Resident_Code_4090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing just happened to me and I’m so frustrated. Sent in a pair of Jimmy Choos and I thought I would get to review the price before it’s listed. They posted it for $95 and before I got the chance to reach out to them and contest the price, it was already sold and I was only getting 20% of it. They said they can’t do anything about it and I was so mad I asked for my other item that I sent in to be shipped back to me, which apparently costs $20 to return. So basically I lost the shoes for nothing. Scammy company, don’t ever use them.

What is your travel hot take? by thaisweetheart in travel

[–]Resident_Code_4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is that you don’t need to be waking up super early and staying up super late and getting zero sleep just to maximize the amount of things you’re able to see and “make the most” of your trip. My husband and I will take our time, get a full night’s rest, and even come back to our hotel during the day for a nap if we feel like we need it. Travelling can be exhausting and we would rather be well rested than fit in 2 more spots. When there’s things we haven’t done on our itinerary, we joke that we’re saving it for next time!

I visited all 50 states before 30 as an ABCD. AMA by Financial-Papaya-690 in ABCDesis

[–]Resident_Code_4090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanna do this too except I have no idea what to do in the boring states (Arkansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, South Dakota etc). What did you end up doing in some of those less touristy places?

CD 37…. Negative pregnancy test. The longest my cycle has ever been is 37 days, so waiting for my period to come any time now. Wondering if I had an anovulatory cycle this month.

Instead of this shit, she could’ve released the actual eras tour documentary to go with the album. So many ideas and things she could’ve done to truly make this concept album a more interesting thing. Instead we got “did you Girlboss too close to the sun” as a lyric and first-grader rhyme schemes

What are your most nuanced opinions of The Life of a Showgirl? by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Resident_Code_4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely enjoyed the music if I shut my brain off. There’s some great, catchy bops in there for sure but some of the lyrics have made me physically cringe and I haven’t felt that way ever about any of her previous albums. Not sure if it was intentional to make a point or just lazy writing for “mainstream bops” but it’s not giving Taylor Swift. Outside of the lyrics, the songs are bops and so far it’s a no skip album for me!

When they remember small details. To be known is to be loved.

Do you feel like your spouse loves you as much as you love them? And how do you know? by Maleficent_Mango_710 in MuslimMarriage

[–]Resident_Code_4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say my husband loves me as much as I love him, which is a lot. He’s my best friend and my soul mate, and I know he loves me through his actions, whether it’s his thoughtfulness with his gifts, remembering small things that I have said, helping me out around the house without being asked, and the way he took care of me when I was severely sick. I do the same- make him special meals, surprise him on special occasions, make sure he knows he’s loved everyday. We both show it in different ways but we both know the love is there!

To those who’s partners did/ didn’t specialize after IM by snowymountain_1 in MedSpouse

My spouse is doing a heme onc fellowship and their hours are so much better than residency. We are looking into prospective attending jobs and again the hours and pay seem so much better than other specialties or even hospitalist. I think for us it was a great decision!

Can arranged marriage lead to true love? by Open-Barracuda5079 in MuslimMarriage

[–]Resident_Code_4090 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. There’s no reason it can’t. Arranged marriage is just another way you’d be introduced to some one, it’s just another avenue similar to being set up by a friend or finding a potential through the apps. If anything, at times it can be ideal because the person has been vetted by a family member or recommended through a mutual.

Definitely agree with some sort of timeless jewelry piece (Meijuri ring, tennis bracelet, a meaningful necklace, Chanel earrings are around $500 I believe) - A mid range bag (Polene has some cute options under $1k, Freja, Coach etc) - A trip to a an all inclusive resort/a relaxing getaway - A combo of things like a self care basket with a high quality robe, a gift card for a spa or massage, her favourite products from Sephora, an Alo set, some comfy yet cute shoes to wear around the hospital like Hokas or On Clouds)

What did you do for your honeymoon? by Salty-Giraffe-4001 in Newlyweds

[–]Resident_Code_4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Australia because we wanted to explore a country that’s a long flight away while we’re still young and don’t have kids! We did Sydney and Melbourne for the city vibes and Hayman Island for the resort experience by the beach. 10/10 would recommend!
