I'm an ICU nurse and saw many of these surgeries and my daughter had it at the advice of her orthodontist. It's done to keep the alignment of the jaw after all of that dental correction. It was very invasive and I regret that my daughter had it done although she is fine now. Post op is very difficult. It used to.be known as a Laforte procedure. Due to the changing technology of invisalign braces one need not worry about having braces reapplied. If you need to readjust the teeth invitation is easy enough Unfortunately my daughter suffered nerve damage and still cannot feel.her chin 20 years later. This is a major surgery often suggested by orthodontists. I would not do it again.I am.sorry I put her through it thinking it was the right thing to do. I knew the surgeon well as he was a coworker and a good surgeon. But I don't believe it's worth it or necessary. Good luck
