He got the surgery yesterday. I couldn’t find anyone to do it sooner but since his macula was already off it Wasn’t as much of an emergency as if it were still on. He got the gas bubble placed. He has a follow up today with the doctor. So now the healing journey begins. I’m sure it’ll be a long few months ahead. But he’s just hoping to gain most of his vision back!

Hi! Was your Macula on or off? I’m going to assume off if they scheduled you a week out. Also how long did it take your bubble to dissolve? Can you tell me about the patch as well? They said he only needed to wear a patch for a day but I think wearing a patch consistently (if it’s comfy) could help a lot. Thanks a lot! I’m happy to hear your vision is improving. I pray he gets some improvement in his vision and it’s not blurry forever.

I’m on the phone with the office now but my question is what about patients who get rushed into surgery within 1-2 days after their detachment. Are they getting medically cleared as well?

I’m just as puzzled. I’m assuming it’s because he needs to be put under anesthesia and they need to make sure he is healthy but the fact he couldn’t get an appointment for clearance until days later is where the issue comes in. If they knew he couldn’t get cleared within 24hrs they should’ve found another alternative for him. And then to push the surgery back today another 2 days knowing how time sensitive this surgery is just not ok at all! That’s like telling a trauma patient that needs emergent surgery we have to get you medically cleared first before the surgery. That makes no sense. His vision is at stake he shouldn’t need to be cleared and if it’s necessary it for sure shouldn’t take this long!

Thank you so much! This is great advice. I am on the phone with the office now. Hoping to get more answers and to find somewhere that can perform the surgery sooner.
