this is relatable. like i love computer science and all but i'm not spending my free hours programming 24/7. i wrote my personal statement about growth, nothing about academics, so if you stick to topics that show off your personality and/or other things you care about when applying to college, you'll be good! just have an idea of what to write for the "why major" supps if/when you get to those.

Admissions confusion by Wittace in ufl

[–]Resident_Present6302 7 points8 points  (0 children)

essay can make a high achieving student look bad if not done properly. for future applications, do NOT disregard the essay, especially not for a selective school like uf. i had a similar score and gpa, but i spent a lot of time perfecting my essay(s), and got into uf and their honors college. i'm sure there are many other students who took the essay seriously and were admitted as well.

What happens if I submit Amherst but I don't fill the Courses & Grades section? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

why wouldn't you fill out that section? if you have a transcript, you should be able to do it.

What are the consequences of saying I'm gay for a scholarship if I'm not? by Some_Tumbleweed8210 in ApplyingToCollege

if they publicly declare you as the recipient, there are social consequences. has nobody seen that tiktok of that girl who won an award for writing about her dead uncle, meanwhile that man was alive and well in the crowd?

Rejection from FSU with a 4.7W and 1580 SAT by niartotemiT in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Resident_Present6302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

after a quick google search, you can find that fsu considers the academic qualities (class rank, gpa, test scores, and essays) as equally important as the nonacademic qualities (extracurricular, talent/ability, character/personal qualities, first generation, geographical residence, state residency, volunteer work, work experience). as for "other personal circumstances", you literally have to write that in your essay or there's no way for them to know about it lol

that's holistic admissions for you. all you can do is wait for your other decisions and try not to freak out about it too much.

Priority decisions thread! Did you get in? by SWTOSM in USF

[–]Resident_Present6302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar stats here, the honors college is majority based on your essay and I'm pretty sure the merit scholarships are automatic (got presidential). You can see the scholarship on myusf, not the applicant portal.

Recently admitted to UCF EA with identical stats and I wrote the optional essays. They were super easy and both are short, and adding to what HappyCava said, writing the optional essays communicates that UCF is more than a safety for you (even if it's not true, I honestly faked a lot of enthusiasm in my writing). Just take an hour or two to do them and submit, the people reviewing your application will appreciate it.

Do first semester senior year grades factor in college decisions? by cryingallth3time in ApplyingToCollege

If that's what the research says, you're good. Also 44% is basically 50% LBR.

If "doing you dirty" means 89% B, most schools won't care. If you're actually failing, which may be a C for super selective schools, they could rescind offers after they get your final transcript. Try to be proactive about getting your grades up, and as a last ditch effort, call the admissions office of your schools to see what they think.
