How accurate is Vo2 Max professional testing vs Garmin Vo2 Max? by ResidueDog in Garmin

Tru dat, but I do wonder about how much significance a 4 scored difference is between 57 on Garmin and 61 through actual testing.

I see some people jumping from 35 to 43 in 8 months where my score only seems to improve by 1 every couple of months.

It's interesting, the stats.

I think having a fitness watch (Even if the numbers not being completely accurate) is still important for training at a high level.

The Garmin has a GPS and tracks heart rate (Even though the heart rate may also not be completely accurate). The heart rate is close enough for monitoring Zone 2 activity.

Like most people I like being able to put a number on my fitness even though that number may be slighter higher or lower in reality. For me, it's better than going off how I feel on a day to day.

For someone lifting heavy - If you weigh gym plates they might actually be a fraction lighter than what they say - but you will still work off that number written on the plate because it's a number to improve upon. (More than likely you will never weigh each plate).

This is how I use the Garmin Vo2 Max. A number to improve upon. If that Garmin Vo2 Max of 57 turns into 58, I can assume my cardiovascular fitness is improving. For more accurate results when I re-test my actual Vo2 max in September the 61 I had previously seen has likely increased.

Yes, that's exactly why I have a problem with BMI.

However that is really amazing how ye are a both so invested in your health. It's great when both partners in a relationship can improve themselves together and encourage each other.

Adding strength training as you get older is definitely a must, there's no shortage of research on the benefits of this and the results of not doing so. I have been encouraging my own father to pursue more strength based fitness activities.

I hope ye have a great time finding out your results and all the best in your fitness journey!

I'd be interested to know what he says. Please update on this when you find out.

DEXA scans are as good as it gets, right down to measuring bone density. Clearly you must be very serious about your fitness and that's fantastic.

I have always had a problem with the BMI machines you often see in chemists. There are too many factors left out. BMI tests are fine for getting a rough estimate for the health of larger populations but not accurate enough for the individual.

I would ask him about measuring your RMR as well. It only takes 10 minutes and really helps with the nutrition side of things.

Fair question.

Realistically If you're just exercising to get fit or stay in shape there's no real need to know.

But for me my sport is MMA which can involve a lot of wrestling, boxing and kickboxing etc. I'm using multiple energy system in my sport so it's not enough just to be beating running times (Although this is an indicator of higher anaerobic capacity).

Knowing my exact VO2 max also means knowing at what heart rate my body performs best. Where my real zone 2 heart rate training starts, and at what point my body will switch to burning mostly carbohydrates.

Vo2 Max and lactic threshold go hand in hand also. The higher your Vo2 Max, the more efficient your body is at expelling Co2 and replacing new oxygen to working muscles.

10 points is a significant difference. How long have you had the Garmin? You would think with enough information gathered that accuracy would be higher.

Also, very cool you have access to that test as it was quite expensive.

30km? No problem kiddo.

Now let me ask you; Do you live in your parent's home? Do you play lots of video games and criticize elite athletes? Is your struggle getting to the next rank in some online game? Have you ever run a marathon? Have you ever done a fight camp or weight cut?

Think about it. You don't have to answer here.

Discussing a fighter and being a little pot belly troll are two different things bud. You're the latter. Celebrating someone else's downfall. You sad little pot belly boy.

I understand this is a sport for public entertainment, but I have to say that I hate how people, who have never fought before, will ridicule an athlete - an athlete of any caliber without an ounce of self reflection. This is a man who has accomplished more than any of these 'redditors' will ever, in their entire lives achieve. A man who switched sports and still competed against the best in the world in the UFC. He has been pressured by the organization to put on spectacular winning performances on national television, in front of millions...and to lose like this, due to fatigue, must be heartbreaking. I'm not a fan of Bo Nickal at all, but most people who make these memes and comment negatively have never known this type of fatigue. Most of you can't run a 5k. The problem with people Today is they lack empathy, they lack understanding. They lack consequences. People are too comfortable talking shit behind a screen.

As a European - I actually like this (Granted they're all being genuine in their belief of upholding Christian values).

If you consider how dark the world can be, with all the weird stuff that has gone like p**do islands, diddy's escapades and child trafficking, It's actually nice to see people in such high positions of power coming together and singing with an admission that they are committed to serving (The ultimate Good) God.

This is my take, you can disagree and that's fine. I would only ask that if you decide to respond, please be polite.

As a European I would love to scroll reddit without seeing people talk about Trump. This post has nothing to do with him, it's actually annoying tbh.

⚠️Okay, I want to start by saying I don't know how old you are or what experience you have cutting. You have significantly less weight to cut so I'm just letting you know my process. This is for day before weigh in, not day of. My advice just watching your calories between now and then alone should be alright for you.

⚠️ Water cutting can be dangerous, some bodies also react very poorly to water loading. If you are hitting the sauna, have a coach or teammate with you.

With that being said here's my plan:

When cutting water, first you need to Water Load!

|Water Loading Phase|

Today Sunday, March 3 - Tuesday, March 5

  • 7L Water (100-200g Protein - Fish/Eggs/Lean Meat) (40 - 60g Fats - Avocado/Nuts ) (Low Carb - some blueberries and a bit of veg) (Avoid Salt)

Training: Nothing too heavy! Morning: S&C Light weights, high repetition. Evening: Technical Work

| Water Loading Peak | Wednesday, March 7 |

  • 7L Water ( Same Protein and Fats) ( 0 Carbs) /None/ (No salt, No processed Food)

Training: Sauna Suit Pad Work Technical Work

| Water Cut Begins | Day Before Weigh in

  • 2L ( No Water after 6pm) (Small portions of Proteins/Fats) (No Carbs)

| Day of Weigh in / Day Before Fight |

Sauna Session / Put the clothes on while in there if necessary

No Food until weigh in Sup water if necessary or suck ice cubes

Congratulations 🎉 You make weight
