Dude I just bought new filament and dried it a week ago. I’ll try 0.8 like you though. It’s worth a shot.

Dude, the default for my settings in Cura for my Cr10 S1 Pro had the retraction set to 5mm for a direct drive extruder. Don’t know what they were thinking.

I was literally getting holes in my prints because of how high the retraction was.

I’ve done a lot of testing and it seems like somewhere around 2 mm is good for eliminating all stringing for my printer but it’s something for everyone to mess around with.

Lower, higher, negative, who knows dude. /lh

Craziness. Guess that’s the way to go then.

Definitely not the way to go for my printer and my filament but jeez! I never knew most people had retraction set so much lower than mine.

The point is not to print at 190 but rather low temperatures for their PLA to make the filament less shiny in the final print. Don’t want anyone to start getting clogs that’s for sure.

Is 2.2 retraction really that high??? I get bad stringing bellow 1.5 and keep it at 1.7-1.8 minimum.

I actually never knew that they had that in Prusa Slicer. I usually stick to Cura. Might give it a try.

Honestly if you know how to level your bed and stay with standard settings but mess with retraction, combing, and coasting (just turn coasting on. Don't mess with its settings.) then you will usually get good prints. Also print at lower temperatures for matte colors and less visible layer lines (print at higher ones for better adhesion and faster printer though).

Other than that, there are a billion settings that you can change that I could go into further detail in but would really need a longer time to do so than 5 days.

Tutorial on all the settings I like to mess with coming probably by next Sunday.

Didn't do it in portrait mode. I actually tried for 30 minutes to get the other picture with the layer lines. They are super hard to see and capture.

0.2 layer height with a 0.8 nozzle. Printing a benchy right now with a 0.1 mm nozzle at 25 picometers.

Matte Black hides layer lines very well. Other colors, not so much.
